Left, greens and hard left

So, Melenchon’s lot. We’re tpld oit’s the left, hard left and greens. So, how hard left is hard?

Corbyn? Murpny? Owen Jones? Full on Tankies? How crazed are these people?

And, possibly apposite, how much more dangerous are they than the national front lot?

  1. Melenchon’s an out and out Stalinist. This is like voting in a coalition of Militant and SWP.

This is proper return to the 1930s stuff in France.

  2. ‘Chilling moment’: French far-Left’s victory alarms prominent Jews’

Clearly if you take Israel Hayom seriously, the hard left they most resemble is the National Socialist German
    Workers Party.

  3. “how much more dangerous are they than the national front lot?” ?

Based on the body count of those fortunate to have been governed by the left over the last 100 odd years, I’d say considerably……..

  4. On economic policy there’s little difference between the NFP and RN. Both want the impossible: higher minimum wage, more benefits, lower retirement age, etc. In a parliament where any MP can sponsor a bill they’ll probably pass a motion to give everyone a pony. Then Macron will have to veto it, or the bond market will.
Macron is as done as Joe Biden, he just isn’t as aware of it.

  5. Owen Jones is difficult to gauge. The others have presumably set out a more or less coherent set of plans or a manifesto, but has he ever done that? All I’ve ever seen is a little soft lad journalist grumbling about a few themes that preoccupy him.

  6. Le Pen’s lot seem to have excised their links with fascism but Melonchon’s bunch of loons includes actual commies. It boggles the mind how thick/deranged/evil one would need to be to vote for an actual commie, never mind stand as one.

  7. I haven’t seen Murphy’s take on it yet but the salivating in the Guardian suggests this might be his dream of a ‘Rainbow coalition’ – however as in Germany and Scotland you get a pantomime horse that function a about as effectively. They’ll be like rats in a sack even if they do get power.

Here’s how it is in Britain, starting with the assumption that you’ll never get people to change their view that Hitler was far right.

Far right: (1) any MPs who hold ant-semitic Islamofascist views plus their ally Jeremy Corbyn. (2) MPs who share the Nazi view of Mother Nature i.e. the Greens. (3) Nationalists i.e. SNP, Plaid Cymru, Ulster Unionists, Sinn Fein.

Centre right: Reform and maybe the Conservatives – we’ll have to wait and see.

    Centre Left: Lib Dumbs

    Far Left: Labour.

That, at least would be a more rational view than the BBC/Guardian view of “far right” vs “left-inclined”.

This is the left so let’s so how the coalition negotiations go now they have to agree on what they are for rather than against….

1st round of coalition talks: 4 parties enter, 6 parties leave.

    After further considerations:

2nd round coalition talks: 6 parties enter, 12 parties leave.

    And so on

I missed this bit, they started fracturing before the election. Fraser Nielsen in today’s Speccie newsletter:

“ When France’s left ganged up on Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, they were united by the need to stop her 28-year-old protégé, Jordan Bardella, from winning a majority and becoming prime minister. They wanted to weaken him, but never expected to take power. Last night the New Popular Front stunned itself by emerging as the biggest block in yesterday’s election. Its nine members have to nominate a PM and agree on an agenda. Consensus is hard to come by: they range from respectable socialists and Greens to far-left Trots and Antifa types.

Constitutionally, the French president appoints a prime minister after talks with the biggest party in the winning coalition. The leader of the biggest party is Jean-Luc Mélenchon, 72, a Corbyn-type figure who leads La France Insoumise (LFI). He’s demanded his far-left agenda is implemented in full. This is too much for the French Greens. ‘A good PM must calm the country and unite in his own camp,’ said Green leader Marine Tondelier. As a result, she said, ‘[that is] not going to be Mélenchon’.

Mélenchon is even too toxic for parts of his party. François Ruffin, a former journalist who did much to put together the NPF coalition, quit LFI during the campaign. One of LFI’s deputies, Clémentine Autain, blamed Mélenchon for purging candidates before the election leading to ‘fratricide’. She has resigned and is looking for a new party. Four others have joined her.”

  11. “Zut alors, we have defeated les fascistes again hon hon hon!”

    Lol. ROFL even.

Enjoy the death of your country, Frogs.

  12. As so often on the Continent, the people vote, but the politicians decide who has won.

    Isn’t Corbyn a full-on tankie?

Closer to the CPGB(ML), who coined the term ‘Tankie’ for their opponents in the CPGB; the former thought the Russians sending tanks into Hungary in 1956 a bad thing, the latter did not. I recommend not trying to follow the history of this debate, as it quickly descends into People’s Front of Judea and Judean People’s Front territory.

  13. Economically, the New Left Alliance (or whatever they’re called) are absolutely mental.

It’s been a few days since I read the analysis of their manifesto but, IIRC, we’re talking massive wealth taxes, colossal exit taxes, capital controls, swingeing CGT, etc.

All to pay for a cornucopia of benefit increases that others have outlined.

Time to kiss the French economy goodbye. Any minute now, many citizens of La Belle France will be crowding amongst the Somalis in those small boats — and they’ll likely be just as destitute…

    Pictland :
Hitler was far right. He described himself as right wing in a speech clearly recorded Ed in history. Mussolini said he was right wing in the Doctrine of fascism.
The Reform Party and Conservatives are far right.
Boris described the British working class as drunk, criminal, and hopeless.
Sunak said he had friends from all walks of life except the working class.
The Reform Party are just far right Tory Thatcherite yuppies with a new lick of paint.
    Labour are moderate centre left.

  15. I’ve put a prediction up on Spud’s comments on France that there are many historic examples of the 2nd placed party allying with the 3rd or lower placed party to get a workable majority.
    Didn’t get accepted.
Happened in New Zealand and Poland in the last 10 years, almost happened in Ireland Republic.

Macron and Le Pen, if nothing else, do not believe in confiscating property from French people although RN want to get tougher on toll charges.

Melenchon via translate: “Renationalisation (of highways) must be organized. But I prefer to warn: those who have benefited from this largesse for years should not expect to be compensated without us taking this undue drain into account.”

Best long distance roads in the world in my view and they want to mess with it.

  16. Hitler said he was right wing in April 1921.
Mussolini said he was right wing in the Doctrines of Fascism.
Boris described the working class as criminals, drunk and hopeless.
Sunak said he had friends from all walks of life except the working class.
The Reform Party and Conservative Party are far right Thatcherite, yuppies and posh people.

  17. “The Reform Party are just far right Tory Thatcherite yuppies with a new lick of paint.”

Yes, because Clacton is a well known Thatcherite yuppy haunt……..along with Basildon, Thurrock, Boston, Skegness, Ashfield and Gt Yarmouth. Full of wide boys and girls in their GTIs wielding Filofaxes.

Jesus man, listen to yourself. How about actually looking at the data?

    https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/49978-how-britain-voted-in-the-2024-general-election

Reform got 20% of the C2DE vote, ie the social classes that include the Working class. Conservative got 23%, Labour 33%, LDs 11%. So the lower social classes are split down the middle – 43% Right, 44% Left. I suspect that the half that vote Right are the actual working classes and the ones who vote Left are the welfare classes, unless you have managed to conclude that welfare claimants are desperate to get Nigel and the Tories into power?

    By contrast ABC1 splits 35% Labour, 14% LD, 11% Reform, 25% Conservative. Left = 49%, Right = 36%.

From which we can conclude that its the Left that is now on the side of the bourgeoisie, those who make a living in State employ mainly, living off someone else’s back. And its the Right that is more oriented to those who graft for a living.

  18. Cool, a schizoposter.

I just assumed it was a 13-year-old that was using the computer while Mummy was distracted.

  19. Jim – 4 of the 5 Reform Party MPS are typical Tory Thatcherite types. The arch enemy of the working class. The working class will be conned to vote for far right Reform Party types by far right media.

Steve- Schizophrenic people can vote also.

Bloke In Wales – Lazy unoriginal put downs are for losers..

  20. Jim – Even using you data how does Reform getting 20 per cent and Labour 33 per cent prove to you that Reform represent the poor?
Hello Earth calling Jim. Basic math lesson.
33 is higher than 20. Did they not teach you math at school on your home planet?
Oh and you ignore the green party, snp, Plaid Cymru, and the myriad of independent socialist type parties to ignore that more working class people voted left.

If you think Richard Tice, Nigel Farage, and Rupert The Bear Lowe are from working class left wing backgrounds then I suggest you have a conversation with your Far right handlers.

Excuse me while I drop the mic.

  22. Nigel Ya Ya Farage, Rupert The Bear, and Dick Tice are from the tough working class estates of cloth cap and whippets.

My word they are so tough, one of them once forgot to us a letter h when he ordered his Butler to put some tootpaste on his toothbrus. Rather old fellow dear chap.

  23. ‘I just assumed it was a 13-year-old that was using the computer while Mummy was distracted.’

Thirteen year olds have more sense, BiW.
