Now, fair enough etc but…..

Donald Trump was welcomed with resounding cheers of “USA! USA!” and “Fight! Fight!” by delegates at the Republican convention as he made his first public appearance since his assassination attempt.

Trump, his right ear covered in a white bandage, was formally crowned earlier in the day as the party’s presidential candidate by a roll call of states.

The man did get shot, it’s not just an elastoplast needed etc.

But just a little prediction. When that bandage comes off isn’t going to be something the doctors talk about. It’s a political thing now. A badge. So, when it comes off will be a political badge.

The question will be, come off ealry so pictures can be taken of how close it all wass, still rough, even raw? Or keep the bandage on because big and white is easier to see?

Yes, yes, of course this is cynical. But the correct question about politics is always “Am I being cynical enough?”

When it comes down to it, he came within a hairs breadth of having his head taken off.
I think this is one badge of honour that is well earned.

I take your point that the white dressing is good and visible but I must admit I had half hoped that he’d wear a stars-and-stripes dressing.

“The man did get shot, it’s not just an elastoplast needed etc.”

Yesterday, the BBC were saying that he had been “shot at”. That’s why he needs to make as much of this as he can. He’d probably be justified in asking the doctors to take a bit more of the ear off, and carving a little groove down the side of his head to make it look more serious.

I’m also amazed that he’s up and running (pun intended) so soon after the event. Most of us would need some private quiet time to reflect on the grim reaper taking such a close swing at us, especially if there were grounds to suspect that the grim reaper was in the pay of the deep state. But there he is, battling away.

For most of Monday the line taken by the BBC was “Trump says he was shot”.

I guess that is approved by BBC Verify as completely truthful and accurate.

Anyone old enough to remember Ted Kennedy’s neck brace?

Simon. Here is an exact cut ‘n paste from the bbc news front page:-

Trump, who says he was shot in the ear at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, earlier called on Americans to “stand united”

As I said on Samizdata, surely Marianna Spring could have worked out whether he was actually shot or just saying he was. Otherwise what are we paying her for?

…since his assassination attempt.

I missed that! Whom was he attempting to waste?

If he takes it off too early, that’s going to lead to the wound getting infected.

Wounds are bandaged for a reason.

Those pictures already exist and the puncture wound, size and location at the top of the ear-lobe can be seen.

PHILIP MAHER & John:

Regarding “Trump says he was shot”.

Thanks to both of you.

Given that it happened in front of professional media teams and thousands of people who all had a video camera on their phone, one wonders how the BBC’s analysis is worth anything more than any random loon sounding off because they have an opinion.

I’m surprised the BBC isn’t putting it down to MAGA hat failure.

Web sites seem to say that the shooter had links to the Republican Party, and had conservative views.

So should the left get the blame for a right wing person doing a murder attempt?

I do not support Trump. He is a threat to democracy who claimed he only lost due to a rigged vote.

I do not support violence.

“He is a threat to democracy who claimed he only lost due to a rigged vote. ”

He also claimed that he had been shot.

Just as Hilary claimed she also lost because of a rigged vote.

But of course she felt Trump was too incompetent to rig it himself. He had to get the Russians to do it for him.

From our friend’s link:
President Joe Biden urged Americans to refrain from making assumptions about the shooter’s motives.

“We don’t yet have any information about the motive of the shooter,” Biden said in remarks from the White House on Sunday.

I’ll bet he doesn’t

I’d say that definitely confirms he was a Biden supporter. The media may try & convince us he was a Republican but it’s not working, is it?
