Toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” used in lithium ion batteries essential to the clean energy transition present a dangerous source of chemical pollution that new research finds threatens the environment and human health as the nascent industry scales up.
The multipronged, peer-reviewed study zeroed in on a little-researched and unregulated subclass of PFAS called bis-FASI that are used in lithium ion batteries.
Researchers found alarming levels of the chemicals in the environment near manufacturing plants, noted their presence in remote areas around the world, found they appear to be toxic to living organisms, and discovered that waste from batteries disposed of in landfills was a major pollution source.
You know, we tried and all that, but it’s just not going to work, is it? Back to petrol and derv then…..
“Back to petrol and derv then”
Not now the green gravy train has a new driver and the headcode has changed from Class 2 to Class 1.
Dale Vince, the bloke who gave the liebour party more than a million quid for absolutely no quid pro quo whatsoever, honest guv’, was on the Toady programme saying what a good thing getting rid of the planning requirements for onshore windfarms is.
A million well spent then eh?
“You know, we tried and all that, but it’s just not going to work, is it? Back to petrol and derv then…..”
No, no, no! The science is settled on petrol and derv. We’ll have to go back to something even earlier. Pre-industrial, even.
“appear to be toxic to living organisms”
Has the Guardian heard of science? We can test for that, set up some squares of soil with varied concentrations of toxins and plant common species, and some control squares. Then we find it’s a question of what concentration and which plants.
Maybe it’s like setting up a test to see if Ultra Processed Foods are harmful compared to merely Processed Foods. No-one has done it: scared i guess that the results might be non-significant.
We’ll have to go back to something even earlier. Pre-industrial, even.
Horses. Mind you, we’ll be able to grow some beautiful roses with the mega-tonnes of horse shit
With a government committed to banning even trail hunting, I don’t think we’ll be allowed to abuse poor horseys that way.
Hunter-gathering it is then.
As many have already pointed out
Horse and cart is the goal and even then only for the well off – the rest of you will have to just ‘stay in place’ permanently.
With a government committed to banning even trail hunting,
Their legacy to the future, of course. With trail hunting gone, so do the hunts. So no horses, no hounds. You couldn’t restart fox hunting if you wanted to. The ability to do so won’t be there.
Can’t say I’m all that bothered. The unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible. Uncle of mine got himself prosecuted for discharging a 12 bore over the Master’s head. Dispute over rights of way. Master reckoned the hunt had an ancient right of way across his land. Uncle’s response was “You’re welcome to try it.”
Far more concerned about game shooting. Especially deer. Seen what devastation a herd of deer can do to a crop. And you wouldn’t believe how many there are out there.
If you’re concerned about game shooting, then you’ve got to defend hunting on horseback. It’s your first line of defence. If they’re going after people who enjoy riding to hounds, then they won’t have got round to going after people who shoot.
It’s a mistake I made when I was younger. I’ve never been a fan of hunting with horses, because I don’t like the way overweight amateurs can ruin under-prepared horses by riding over bad ground. Too many lame horses. So I happily cheered on the hunting ban. But I love horse racing, and of course the inevitable has happened. Once the Left got hunting banned, they now have horse racing (and greyhound racing) in their sights.
Even now, I have a great friend who loves Flat racing, but won’t have anything to do with jump racing any longer, because of the falls. He doesn’t see that you have to defend the thing you don’t like (jump racing) or they’ll come for the thing you do like (Flat racing). It’s a general lesson: if you want to retain the freedom to do what YOU want, then you have to make the effort to defend the general principle of other people being allowed the freedom to do what THEY want.
(To be clear, nothing is actually hunted in trail hunting: a scent is laid and the hounds follow the scent; Labour is still committed to banning it though, because … well, because it’s rural life.)
I like shooting (targets) but very few people like to defend the principle of allowing people “easy” access to firearms. Yes, you can get a licence but the conditions are extremely strict and Plod goes out of their way to make applying and renewing as difficult, time consuming and expensive as possible.
But guns kill people, so that’s different.
Guns don’t kill people. People kill other people. With what’s available at the time.
Guns, and for that matter any weapon, dedicated or improvised all have one very important characteristic:
They are entirely inert if you leave them be.
As soon the hunting ban came in they started talking about fishing, that’s been quiet for a while but no doubt it will be targeted.
Agree with the earlier comment, you have to oppose the activists at the earliest point as they won’t give up and say ‘job done’ they will move onto the next thing, just look at Stonewall and the various gay rights groups.
Sorry, I don’t remember seeing hoards of red-coated toffs riding herds of horses through the lakes, persuing fish.
Well, I do remember my history studies when I was at school so many, many years ago.
They praised the Fabians for their ‘inevitability of gradualness’ policy. Just let the steady drip, drip, drip of gradual reform wear away resistance.
You can now see the result.
But one thing I’ve noticed is that the whiners are now bitching that the ‘international community’ isn’t sending troops (plus of course huge sums of money and the whiners to ‘administer’ it) to deal with the situation in Sudan for example. So sometimes the bastards cut their own throats.
PS. In case you’re wondering, I grew up during the collapse of the empire, so I naturally believe places like Sudan should be left to go to hell after their own fashion. All we need to do is make sure none of them can come to our countries, and not give them a single penny in ‘aid’.
Their legacy to the future, of course. With trail hunting gone, so do the hunts. So no horses, no hounds. You couldn’t restart fox hunting if you wanted to. The ability to do so won’t be there.
In the name of animal rights and protection we’re going to make those very animals redundant so they all get shot/sent to the glue factory…
Trebles all round!!!
“Horses. Mind you”
And candles, LOT’S of candles…
