Snigger along with Moira

The move dramatically extends executive authority, insulates past and future presidents from prosecution for illegal or even treasonous actions they carry out while in office……It is difficult to overstate the blow this decision will have to the integrity of our democratic system of government, or the depth of its insult to the principles of the separation of powers and the rule of law.

That’s about one recent Supreme Court decision.

The snigger is that if we asked Moira to write about the other recent SC decision – Chevron deference – then she’d say exactly the same things. It’s just that she’d be on the opposite side of each and every argument.

If we don;t allow the unelected bureaucracy to be judge and jury, to create its own rules – all nominally under the control of the executive – then this is a bad thing. Putting legislation back into the legislature is Bad. M’Kay?

The real joy of that is that she won’t be aware of the contracdictions.

  1. This has not been an issue in the preceding 240+ years and is only an issue now because they have such a deep seated hatred of Donald J Trump they are willing to do anything and everything they can to get him, no matter what the cost.

  2. If only the Graun were more absorbent, it could possibly be useful…

Their hacks are so blinded by their ideologies they can’t think straight.

  3. What’s this moderation shit, Tim? Coupled with your oddly written piece about a ‘warning’ the other day, I find it not to be in the hitherto admirable spirit of your blog.

  4. I have actually explained that the spam trap is a little excited at present. In fact, it’s been upgraded – leading, inevitably, to a degradation in performance. I now have to manually approve all comments – and manually kill all spam. Near 1,000 pieces yesterday alone.

I have suggested to the code monkey that this get fixed. Maybe it will be too…..

As to “the warning” that was to underline BiG’s warning. If the German authorities carry on pulling that shit, not jailing the gang rapists but do jail the bird insulting one of the gang rapists, then we’re not going to like the resultant awakening of the German people….

Indeed Tim. But it’s interesting seeing this sort of thing playing out in different countries & societies. And I don’t much hope of the UK. Just look how the Pali enthusiasts have weekly “owned” London’s streets. How much push back has there been from Londoners? When there has been some, the authorities clamp down on the “pushers” with very little difficulty. There aren’t enough of them & their isn’t any commitment in them. Some countries you’d see riots & battles on the streets. I suspect with France we may well see them.
I regretfully conclude that the majority of Brits are craven curtain twitchers. They’ll sacrifice their own futures for the short term comfort zone. Limp-wristed Reform is about as extreme as Brits can take. And even that won’t get full hearted support

  7. On a Wiki I manage, I found having a random question that only a human would understand got rid of the spam. I too was deleting thousands a day at the point I temporarily switched it off to sort it out.
    Possibly randomly selected from:
What is the surname of this blog’s host?
If it is not obvious, what is it?
What is the first name of this blog’s host?
If it is not trivial, what is it?

I found a set of just four obvious-to-human-reader questions stopped the spam from my Wiki.

  8. Ah – thanks. I did think it was unlikely you’d crossed over to the other side but these days I discount nothing.

  9. That seems an odd way for a spam policy to operate (theirs not yours).

I’m not saying there’s a wider plan by TPTB to pressurise blog companies into minimising comment on stuff that TBTB don’t want people commenting on while also potentially making blog companies and hosts responsible for whatever they do allow, but this looks to me a bit like what it would look like if there was.

  10. That’s curious. My 1:24pm was an addition to a previous comment following on from Tim’s, re awakenings. Heaven knows what happened to it.

  11. I would ask, how does an ‘official act’ end up being illegal. If its within the powers of the President and within the President’s authority – how could it be illegal?

For example, treason. How could a President, acting officially, commit treason?

Let’s say the President gives China control over our nuclear arsenal. That’d probably be treason. But, does the President have the authority to do that? How could that be an ‘official act’.

Let’s not forget that they were fine with Obama murdering Americans ‘officially’ too.

An issue the Left is having nowadays is that they’re making the ‘one nation’ conservatives look reasonable.

Another possibility is that the vast majority of Londoners do not live in central London, which is where these demos tend to be. A good number of us never even go there, so the demos don’t affect us, we’re not even conscious of them now that they don’t make news.
