“Angela Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary, Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor, and David Lammy, the Foreign Secretary, are among key members of Sir Keir’s top team who complained to councils over new homes.”
Rayner obviously needs the green belt to complement that voluminous bright green tent thing that she wore when summoned by Sir Keir.
There may be crimes worse than hypocrisy but few are as infuriating.
To be fair, every MP will do a photo-op for this, or send a piss-weak letter to the housing minister. You’d be mad not to do this to keep a few hundred votes. My MP did this, but the housing got built. He didn’t resign from being a minister over it going ahead, or start voting against the government.
“Hypocrisy is a tribute that vice pays to virtue.”
Francois Duc De La Rochefoucauld
My MP on Houses in Multiple Occupation:
“HMOs are a necessary feature in housing markets without sufficient supply and overwhelming demand. These circumstances do not exist in East Durham. The purpose of this application isn’t to provide decent affordable housing but to maximise profits and income for a developer. If approved, Durham County Council will be providing a green light to speculative developers to exploit our community and impose unsustainable housing in areas where there is no demand and desire for such accommodation.
I urge the planning committee to refuse this planning application”
Utter bastard and a communist, but we re-elected him.
Well, some proposed property developments are objectionable …
The test is “to which ones did they object?”
