Feeling bilious this morning

Roma people in Europe: how do you feel about the lack of Roma MEPs?
In what has been described as an ‘unprecedented’ situation, there are no MEPs who identify as Roma in this European Parliament

This request for people to write in has been up for well over two weeks now. Still front page on one version of the paper. The follow up article composed of the people who wrote in has not appeared as yet.

Could it be that no many people give a damn?

  1. Too busy running legitimate businesses and being pillars of the community to be involving themselves in dodgy dealings like being a member of the European Parliament.

  2. Otto: «I thought that the Roma lived without borders ?»

Travelling between Brussels and Strasbourg would come naturally to them.

  3. The Guardian, with its metropolitan progressive views, being the paper of choice for a socially conservative group like the Roma, and so perfectly aligned with their concerns, I expect this request will reach a wide audience in the target group.

I bet Katherine Viner is a dab hand at playing the shell game to fleece tourists.

  4. How many Roma living within the European Union do you expect to read The Guardian written in a foreign language (not their own and not even that of one of the countries in which they live) and published in a non-EU state?
The Grauniad seems as narcissistic and egotistical as Trump

  5. I thought a defining part of Roma culture was refusing to align themselves with/have imposed on them the culture(s) around them. Even the Soviets failed to convert them into proper settled Communists.

  6. The answer to your question John, is whether they can steal one.

And can read. And write if they want to answer.
