Well, yes, however and but…..

A free speech group has claimed they were kicked out of a pub after saying children should not be taught trans ideology in schools.

About 50 members of Free Speech Brighton were ordered to leave the Southern Belle, a hotel and pub in the city, during an evening of speeches on Tuesday, the group claimed.

The landlord is said to have disapproved of one of the speeches regarding the teaching of gender ideology in schools and asked security guards to eject the entire group.

Amusing, obviously, but. A pub is private property. Up to the landlord who gets served – that’s an absolute right, always has been – and who stays on the property etc. Anyone who doesn’t like those decisions can not go there again, up to them.

Which is the bit that so pissed me off about the smoking ban. Up to the landlord….

  1. On the one hand, it’s a brave landlord who kicks out 50 paying customers on a Tuesday.

On the other hand, it’s Brighton – the landlord can ill afford a reputation for hosting people with such views.

  2. “On the other hand, it’s Brighton – the landlord can ill afford a reputation for hosting people with such views.”

Bit of arse covering as well. Someone might complain to the rozzers or the council that he”s hosting far right hate speech and progressing the Trans holocaust.

  3. Had it been a pro-trans group kicked out he would be appearing in court by now, and some lessor criminal (murderer etc.) would be released to make room in jail.

  4. Bloke in North Dorset

I don’t know if its still the case but landlords used to have a duty as part of their licence conditions, or it may have been law, to ensure an orderly house, or words to that effect, and could lose their licence if they didn’t.

Like it or not, stirring up the trans debate, either way, can fall foul of that requirement.

And as pointed out above, this is Brighton so he’s probably wise to protect his livelihood.

  5. Looking at the picture, that pub probably can’t hold more than about 50 people and it’s interesting that four security goons were on hand to call a halt to unwelcome free speech.

  6. Up to the landlord, not always. You can ban individuals for individual actions, but you can’t ban groups based on a group steroetype. You can’t ban all gypsies because they have a reputation for kicking off and you can’t ban all plumbers because they have hairy arses.

This could be a grey area if put to the test. Can you ban everyone with a certain political point of view? Probably not, but is anyone in authority going to trouble you for banning people with an opinion that isn’t endorsed by the establishment?

As mentioned above, if it had been a pro-trans group being kicked out, they certainly would have taken legal action and I wouldn’t bet against them winning. The same in reverse has to be subject to the same laws?

  7. Looks like a bunch of harmless ladies being bullied out of a venue they’d hired by some big blokes. It’s enough to give a tranny a semi.

Is this right? You can’t refuse to bake cakes for a gay couple or allow them to stay at your B+B? Pub is providing a service and I would have thought a belief in sex being real is protected under the Equality Act.

I support anyone refusing to provide a service but if the law says you can’t refuse where the people are gay and that’s contrary to your religious belief I’d hope it would also apply to protect people wanting a service from you who won’t accept trannie madness,

  9. They weren’t just “kicked out of a pub”; they’d hired a room. Toby’s taking Bucko’s unlawful discrimination line in public, but I wouldn’t bet against breach of contract.

  10. There’s a pub in Brighton called The Devil’s Dyke.

With a name like that, they can’t chuck you out for anything.

  11. Devil’s Dyke is a geographical feature little more than a pendant’s throw north of the town.

National Trust, so Free Speech Brighton need not apply for picnic permission.

  12. The tranny thing is enlightening tho.

A significant percentage of the population will believe/pretend to believe literally anything, however ridiculously absurd, so long as their authority figures tell them to believe it.

For these near-people, the solution is to change their authority figures.
