I’ve always liked this:

I’m an ex-session player but a generation after Herbie. He was one of those people who was on *everything*, and I never heard a bad word said against him.
It was also his idea to get Ronnie Ross in to do the baritone solo on Walk On The Wild Side. Genius.
My Little Big Sis’ first novel was a romance novel. One that wasn’t well enough disguised from real life – she forgot to change the characters’ names. Girl she went to school with and the drummer in Herbie’s band, Sky.
Ho Hum.
The drummer on Grandad was Clem Cattini, who was even more prolific than Herbie. Clem played on hundreds of songs, including 42 No.1 UK singles. He was also considered for the drum seat in Led Zeppelin early on.

There’s a website called Session Stories that includes interviews and anecdotes with London-based session players. Clem’s on that. I’ve played with a few of these people and did two world tours with Richard Bailey.

I was listening to Sky 2 just the other day. Great album.
I had the pleasure of seeing them live in the 80’s as a teenager and they were fantastic.
RIP Herbie, a great musician and by all accounts a great bloke.
