The markets might be more relaxed about new investment that boosts the productive potential of the economy, so that faster growth creates more tax revenues to service the additional debt. But it is not clear that this applies to many of Labour’s early proposals, notably the green energy projects being pushed by Ed Miliband.
Ed’s plans increasing growth, eh?
That’s a damn shame. I was expecting my personal finances to improve once we started putting CO2 under the sea.
Good job Rache found the black hole and managed to fill it in time. I’m amazed she managed to find it without the help of the black hole expert, Lord Alli. Perhaps his tuition of TTK on the subject has not not been wasted…
Sorry, the mental picture of TTK and Lord Alli industriously researching black holes obviously gave me a typing stutter. The double negative was unintentional.
Paul Mason was on yesterday’s Speccie Coffee House Shots podcast doing his usual Labour cheerleading stuff whilst also demanding even more left wing, which was bad enough but his blind faith in the omniscience of the OBR was frightening. Even more frightening was that nobody challenged him.
More rule by technocrats who tell politicians what they want to hear. This isn’t going to end well.
@BIND
Hasn’t started well either!
I suspect that candles and petrol/diesel generators might start selling well in the not too distant future.
I suspect that’s not the sort of growth they want though.

Note to self, pop out and fill up the LPG tank on the motorhome*
*Heating and cooking for about a 10 days under the severest of condition and 200AHC battery that powrs the fridge, lighting and TV and charges whilst driving as well as through solar panels. I’m alright, Jack.
@BiND – Yup. Stocking up on supplies for blackouts myself. I’ve got £95 worth of 12volt batteries arriving Wednesday, which will act as a swapout for my 2 UPS batteries and add to the bank of backup 12volt batteries I charge weekly.
Should give me about 36 – 48 hrs of lighting and USB charging ON TOP of the 50,000 mha of lithium USB charges I’ve got around the place.
I’ve also got about 20 days of heating / cooking gas canisters and a thermal USB charger which runs off wood and a 120 watt solar panel which can charge phones at a pinch. Not much use in cloudy / overcast skies though.
Doesn’t sound much, but every little helps and it’s still more than most people.
I’ve still got a Lister LR2 4kVA generator which should keep the oil central heating going and some lights & Internet until the FTTC cabinet packs up, but I really want to swap it for something a bit more recent. The hob is propane so that sorts hot meals. Our first & second level load shed periods appear to be Friday & Saturday evenings. If we do a Cuba though, that will be interesting as I haven’t got a shotgun…
