Some people have had enough of the struggle for survival. Their futures have no upside, only downside. They lead lives of distress and despair. But suicide can be unpleasant. What if there was a painless way to escape, one approved of by Tim Worstall naturally…
Agree Southerner. Perhaps the recent ‘tragedy’ in Buenos Aires is an example of someone who ‘struggled to survive’?
Oh come on Tim. Are they actually giving the numbers? Or any actual proof? This has all the characteristics of the campaign against vaping. It must be true because we say it is.
As for “Some people have asked to be killed due to non-medical reasons”. That’d be me. I very much do not want to die for medical reasons. That’s the point. I want out of here before it gets to that. Ideally, organise a wing-ding of a party to send me on my way. I don’t want to be unable to party at my own party, do I? You can’t strut your stuff on life support.
There’s nothing whatever to stop you doing that when you like, BiS.
The other side of this is the teenager “I wish I was dead!”
I.e. “Pay attention to me!”
@Chris Miller – “There’s nothing whatever to stop you doing that when you like, BiS.”
There certainly is. A major part of the desire for assisted suicide is that people have no desire to die while fit and healthy but want the option of suicide if they decline to the point where they want it but are no longer capable of doing it themselves. They may draw considerable comfort from the knowledge that they will continue to have the choice, even if they end up never exercising it.
Wrong, read what BiS wrote. He doesn’t want to wait until he’s no longer able to commit suicide. And while the thought of being able to end it all even if you’re incapable of doing so for yourself cheers you up, the thought that someone else may choose to end my life when I don’t want to depresses me no end.
@Chris Miller – “the thought that someone else may choose to end my life when I don’t want to depresses me no end”
Well, then you must be an enthusiastic supporter of assisted suicide, rather than the status quo where someone may make the choice for you.
