Might you please post sensible comments here that add to debate?
As long as you don’t correct me, critique me, contradict me or anything like that…..
That said, it remains the case, as it always has been, that those who arrive here with the very obvious intention of trolling, or to abuse, or to promote ideas that are very clearly alien to the ethos of this blog will always see their comments deleted.
Because
saw them blocked because I simply do not have the time or inclination to deal with their newfound negativity that added nothing to debate.
See? Don’t tell me I’m wrong…..
Maybe Ritchie should simply write all the comments himself??
That way he’d know they were all saying the right thing.
@Boganboy
He doesn’t do that already? PSR is surely a sock puppet.
It is, however, now apparent that few trolls reveal their hand in their first comment or two when posting here and do instead take time to reveal their true agendas. In that case, if you are a new commentator, please understand that I am, as a result, almost invariably wary of the comments that you make as a consequence. You might be posting in complete good faith, and I will be pleased if you are. Equally, it takes time for me to have some confidence in anyone who posts here, and some people have taken up to 50 comments before suspicions about them have been proved to be justified, meaning that they have then been blocked. This does increase my workload, but is unavoidable.
This reads as though he is being forced to write the blog in the first place – he could always write less and as for the videos…..
It has also been the case of late that a few more seasoned commentators have taken to posting relatively abusive comments, many of which have implied that they have not bothered to read much, if almost anything, of what I have written. Persistent behaviour of that type by one person who had commented over 1,000 times recently saw them blocked because I simply do not have the time or inclination to deal with their newfound negativity that added nothing to debate.
Anyone have any idea who this is?? Maybe Howard Reed or Andrew Dickie – another mass murderer who has entered the blog in the past decade??
I stress that last point. You’re welcome to disagree with me on this blog, and many people do. But when doing so, I think it is reasonable to ask that you do a number of things.
This is almost totalitarian in its logic: ‘You are welcome to disagree BUT
Firstly, please read what I have written. It is very boring to receive comments about matters that have already been addressed inside the post to which the commentator is responding.
Lie number 1 – innumerable people have commented on the basic content of posts and proven his contentions wrong. Thousands have been directly banned for doing so.
Secondly, please do not ask me to do your Google searches. You can do that just as readily as I can.
Yet when people respond to blogs asking questions, as in the one on Crypto currencies he ‘doesn’t have the time’ to read links.
Thirdly, please do take the time to familiarise yourself with what I previously said on the issue on which you are commenting on this blog. There is a search function on it, and it does work quite well. Please use it before accusing me of things that you think I might not have done. I was, for example, recently accused of having no concern about tax havens. That just revealed the failure of the commentator to do their research. If you want to post, please don’t waste my time by getting things wrong.
You have to Read through more than 2,000 pages of nonsense to have sufficient authority to post?
Fourthly, please do not be gratuitously rude to me or any other commentators. I will, almost invariably, delete you if you do. You might also be banned. This is meant to be a safe space and not one where abuse is offered.
Says the man who uses the words ‘troll’, ‘far right’ and ‘neoliberal’ interchangeably more than 100,000 times on the blog.
Fifthly, if you want to tell me that my proposal is wrong, tell me what might improve it. If you have no suggestions to make, don’t bother to comment. You are not adding to debate.
Provided the ‘improvement’ isn’t ‘neoliberal’ or involves the state taking less money and reducing the scope of its responsibilities.
Finally, please don’t be stupid. If you want to be so, please do it somewhere else. I have time for intelligent debate but not for addressing obviously ridiculous comments, and I am not frightened to point out what falls into the latter category. You might say that’s being rude. I call it closing down irrelevant angles that require no further discussion.
Not really a free speech angle is it? You can say anything within the confines of the Murphy worldview.
It’s as you say, Tim – about time for his annual ‘post to the Trolls’ – just in time for Christmas!!
Talking of odious turds I learn that the Gauleiter of Essex is called Ben-Julian Harrington.
Ben-Julian, eh? That’s almost vulgar abuse all on its own.
How does he ban people? IP address? Email address? Display name? Some of my sockpuppets never get past his banstick, some are allowed to post for a bit then get banned.
Or…. is he reading every post and eliminating them one by one manually? Evil Me cackles…..
Talking of breathtakingly odious hypocrites, if off-topically:
Baillie Gifford winner refuses prize money over fossil fuel ties
The winner of an unprecedented literary double on Tuesday has refused to accept a £50,000 prize until the sponsor publishes an exit strategy for its fossil fuel investments.
Richard Flanagan, who has become the first writer to win both the Booker Prize for fiction and the Baillie Gifford award for non-fiction, said that his “soul would be troubled” if he did not use his victory to urge the investment company to act.
Flanagan’s recorded message was played at the Baillie Gifford awards ceremony just after a senior partner at the firm — which was forced by an activist boycott threat this year to end its sponsorship of ten British literary festivals — issued an “accept us as you find us” threat to the arts world.
Peter Singlehurst said that the investment company could not offer “purity” and that its employees’ “nerdish” love of books would not come before its responsibilities for investing the £200 billion savings of tens of millions of people.
He said activists’ criticism that Baillie Gifford was complicit in the war in Gaza due to investments in companies such as Amazon and Nvidia “borders on the absurd”, adding that this issue had become “blurred” with its purported complicity in the “climate catastrophe” through fossil fuel investments.
Guess who makes £££ from selling his books through the hated Amazon?
Almost as bad as when Neil Fucking Young took all his music off Spotify because they let Joe Rohan interview guests who said Big Pharma’s miracle juice might not be all that good for people while at the same time continuing to distribute it through the Chinese Communist Party’s approved clone.
(Uighurs in concentration camps and political prisoners on death row don’t really download Keep On Rocking In The Free World so no loss I guess.)
He seems to have changed his comment policy, last time he insisted that everyone must send him a cv before being allowed to post.
I doubt there’s many outright abusive comments, instead he spends his time deleting comments that disagree with him or point out his many errors.
He never stops to think that perhaps it’s him that’s wrong
Presumably those CVs were entirely true and accurate?
There once was a happier and more hopeful time where many a moderation guideline was:
“TLDR; pretend to be an adult, and don’t be an asshat.”
Covered a lot of ground, was clear to anyone but the most obstinate Rules Lawyers, and was easy to point to.
Anything more was considered superfluous and a waste of time, since people wouldn’t read it anyway to begin with.
The Tuberous One seems to never have learned this lesson.
Then again, he is a prime example of those obstinate rules lawyers, so not much of a surprise there..
@jgh – i’d be interested to know
Addition to what you said, I think there’s a word filter being used – including a link to ourworldindata or the phrase “core inflation” doesn’t even make it to moderation. Removing those words and the post gets to “awaiting moderation” but not published
