Ah, so here is Nesrine’s considered view

So here we are. Kemi Badenoch is the leader of the Conservative party. That’s another couple of firsts that the Tories have beaten Labour to. So far, the Conservatives have elected the first Asian leader and prime minister, and the first female Black leader of any major British political party.

But as these firsts started to come quicker and closer together – we now have a brown party leader handing over to a Black one – two things have happened. One, the politics of the party has become more unhinged and its electoral record has tanked. And two, the profile of these mould-breaking new leaders has become more extreme. The two are not unrelated to the success of ethnic minorities in the Tory party. I am sorry to point this out, because there is a sort of ritual now that must be observed when the Tories do well on diversity: you must not speak ill of a person of colour who has been elected to a position of leadership for the first time, and the significance of that moment, above all else, should be respected.

Wrong sort of Black, d’ye see?

  1. we now have a brown party leader handing over to a Black one

A clear indication of the Victimhood Poker hierarchy there in the capitalisation!

  2. Yes, appeasement didn’t work, so let’s get back to a ranting bloke in a Hugo Boss uniform with big groups of robust young male supporters on the streets.

  3. I am wondering when Labour will start using racial slurs to describe Kemi. I recon that in about three months time they will start calling her names.

  4. She’s already been called “white supremacy in blackface” in a tweet from some hack which was shared by a Labour MP. I imagine there will be a lot more of this and a lot worse elsewhere on soshal meedja.

  5. Marius I do hope Kemi isn’t tempted to engage directly with those slurs because even though it’s an easy slap down it still keeps the conversation around their silly conspiracies.

  6. At last I see why they’ve taken to calling themselves “progressive”. It used to be that grown ups calling people names was considered juvenile. Then it was only bad if it was applied to “people of colour”. A step further forward was taken by the deputy leader of the Labour Party calling those to the right of Stalin “scum”. Now it’s even more progressive to use racist insults to “people of colour”. I wonder how I’d fare on the BBC if I were to use a racist insult to Dianne Abbott? Would I be “progressive? Or is it different for an old white geezer?
    Oops, I meant White…

  7. Football yesterday:
Spurs v Villa. Starting line ups – twenty two players, no white Englishman.
Man Utd v Chelsea: Starting line ups – twenty two players, one white Englishman.

This ‘Diversity, Equity and inclusivity’ stuff doesn’t appear to be very diverse, equitable or inclusive for white English types does it?

  8. This is the woman who said that “not all cultures are equally valid”, when deciding on who is to be allowed to enter the UK.

Fact check: true. Sudanese culture is not valid:

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is highly prevalent in Sudan. According to a 2014 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), 86.6 percent of women aged 15–49 in Sudan reported living with FGM, and said that 31.5 percent of their daughters had been cut.[1][2] The most common FGM procedure in that country is Type III (infibulation); the 2014 survey found that 77 percent of respondents had experienced Type III.[3]

Most FGM procedures in Sudan have traditionally been performed by local circumcisers without anaesthesia or antibiotics.

  9. In 1997, Tony Blair’s Labour party had a lot of discipline and it took a long time for the discipline to crack.

TTK’s Labour party is not even 3 months old and the discipline has cracked, assuming there was any discipline to begin with.

  10. The double being that Thatcher was the first woman, and also the last person with balls to be Prime Minister.

  11. People are supposed to disagree with these statements of Kemi

“not all cultures are equally valid”, when deciding on who is to be allowed to enter the UK.

online safety regulation is “legislating for hurt feelings”

net zero commitments are “unilateral economic disarmament”

I suspect a majority of people who are not Guardian readers and/or terminally stupid would agree with Kemi – i certainly hope so.

  12. Tim,
ANY sort of black is wrong for Nesrime Malik, a representative of the (brown) Arab non-indigenous overlords of Sudan who traditionally oppress the indigenous blacks and some of whom have recently committed two genocides against their black neighbours.

  13. Well, yeah Moqifen.

I have to agree with Kemi’s statements. Of course I’m not a Brit so it doesn’t affect the number of votes she gets.
