Consider the claim here

Conservatives have said she has been “economical with the truth”.

Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, called the claim “another brazen lie from Rachel Reeves”.

He told The Telegraph: “Rachel Reeves has proven herself to be a compulsive liar. During the election campaign she lied through her teeth about not raising taxes on working people. Now she’s been exposed brazenly lying about her CV, which would be curtains for most people. It’s one rule for her, another for everyone else.”

A politician bigged up their experience in order to persuade frolk to vote for her and her chums.

Oh Aye?

  1. Yeah, but there’s doing it and there’s getting caught.

Obama has managed to cover his tracks. It’d be pretty funny if Trump ordered the release of his birth certificate.

  2. With a CV like that, why hasn’t she got Angie’s job? Lying, cheating sounds good Labour senior material. Perhaps she’s a bit too conventional sexually for his Lordship’s preference or her hemorrhoids are playing her up…

  3. Mmm, politicians lying – definitely happens – Reeves is being accused of lying before becoming a politician surely.
If someone writes a paper to earn an MSc (Econ at LSE in the case of Reeves), are they publicly available to read anywhere?

  4. For the population at large the problem with Reeves is not so much about her mendacity but that as chancellor she’s several beads short of an abacus.

  5. Bloke in North Dorset

Someone in that thread that JGs image came from pointed out that lying on a CV is illegal. IIRC they were from one of the big head hunters.

  6. @BiND Where does Lying begin, and “Padding to Clear the HR Hurdle” end?

Pick 100 CV’s and go over them with a fine comb for veracity. See how many are left when you’re done…

  7. @Bongo – “If someone writes a paper to earn an MSc (Econ at LSE in the case of Reeves), are they publicly available to read anywhere?”

Some of them are, for example LSE has: https://etheses.lse.ac.uk/view/creators/index.R.html
but I don’t see Rachel Reeves there. It’s not clear from the vague description of her qualification whether it was a taught degree (which would not have resulted in a thesis) or one by research (which would).

  8. Who hasn’t polished their CV?

It’s been 25 years since I needed a CV, and I’ll confess to a bit of ‘polishing’, perhaps claiming total credit for something that occurred and I was involved in but not wholly responsible for. But that’s a world away from stating “I worked at company X in position Y” when you’ve never worked at X or held a position equivalent to Y – which is what Reeves seems to have done.

  9. @ BiND
I haven’t – outside my skillset – although I did take some advice from someone to whom I sent it on how to make it look better without lying (the most memorable bit was to add “nominally two-year course completed in one year”)
