Erm, stop banning people?

I have noticed a steady decline in the number of my Twitter followers over recent months, and I am not alone in doing so.

  1. Despite his ideology getting absolutely tanked twice in the polls (Both 2019 Corbyn and 2024 Harris) there’s no sense of rethinking. Whatever happened to the legendary ‘No Pasaran’ stance?

I have noticed a steady decline in the number of my Twitter followers over recent months, and I am not alone in doing so. I do not think that I am losing popularity. I think that the platform is. And, with it now being confirmed that Musk is to work with Trump to cut the size of the federal government, I think that the likelihood that a large number of people might feel that it is time to declare that their use of Twitter (I refuse to call X) should come to an end might have come.

Perhaps his position as the UK’s ‘number 1 economics blogger’ is under threat…

  2. “He / She has the economic knowledge or Richard Murphy”, is a regular line on Twitter. I’m surprised he bothers with the site at all

Maybe stop being such an unlikeable cvnt?

  4. @Bucko Because he was sure Camela would win, and the D’s would put a stop to the horrifying occupation of “Twitter” by Musk and return it back to its old Censored Glory where he could reign as King of Political Economics.

He’s one of the worst of the Losing Side, and his sycophants, being the rats that they are, are leaving the sinking ship in droves. Simple enough.

I can’t think why a bloke who believes in free speech is so hated by the Left…

That’s because he believes in free speech for everyone whereas the left only believe in “free speech” that adheres to their “guidelines”. 🙂

  6. Assuming he’s correct (I know…), a possible reason is that his followers are divided between those who are of like mind, and those who want to fisk him.

Among the ones of like mind, there’s currently a movement to get off Twitter/X to “stop giving Musk money”. Some of them may actually be doing that, which would make his follower count decrease.

  7. The Grauniad has now flounced off from X

No more copy and paste journalism from their echo chamber

    It’s all going splendidly

  8. When Spinal Tap documentarian Marty wonders whether this is a sign that their popularity is waning, their manager Ian Faith is quick to deny it. “Oh no. No, no, no, no, no. No, not at all. I just think that their appeal is becoming more selective.”

  9. I love how the G. throws “it has *millions* of people participating!!!one1!” in as a “loook! It’s viable!!”

When those numbers amount to The Internet in the early 90’s…. They’re off by a factor 100 in current expectations in terms of usage.
Hell a couple of million users up or down is Daily Fluctuation for both Meta and X. Couple 100k users moving shop wouldn’t even register, plus the solid knowledge that they *will* return after their self-exile…

  10. The Guardian claims that Musk is “influencing politics”….by allowing people to say what they think on a global platform.

So when Dorsey was purging conservatives that was…?

  11. Bloke in North Dorset

Dorsey lost control of Twitter a long time ago. He wasn’t allowed on Joe Rogan without his lawyer. The woke had control at all levels, even deciding on shadowing banning without his knowledge.

  12. Starfish, the Graun hasn’t flounced off. It just won’t post any more. Copy & paste activities will continue as normal, aided by further copy & paste from that bluesky thing.
