Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro are claimed to be wonder drugs that will solve the problems of modern living, like obesity, diabetes and dementia. But there are better ways to do that, like going for a walk and stopping eating ultra-processed food. So are they really just mechanisms to perpetuate the profits of Big Pharma, at cost to us all?
People can now have doughnuts and also not get diabeetus. This is bad because instead we should shrive.
What a view of the world, eh?
Seems the only medical treatment Ritchie is in favour of is Covid vaccines.
Lol.
The fat bastard can’t afford the private prescription himself therefore it should be banned and everyone should go for a walk to scream at boats
I’m wonder about how risky these new drugs might prove to be in long term use. Are the people who assure us they will be safe the same people who lied about Covid and its vaxx?
Still, I don’t have a puritanical objection to them and do have an intellectual objection to the term “ultra-processed food”.
If the fat bastard were fed to Steve’s wolves would he be classed as ultra-processed food? After all his “thoughts” seem always to be under-processed.
The puritan v cavalier divide is still a major feature of British life.
I’m fairly certain what “food” is, but what’s the definition of “processing” as regards food, and what amount of processing gets to “ultra”?
Yesterday I microwaved a bass, then washed, cut up and boiled some cauliflower and potatoes, then mashed the potatoes, then seared the mash in a frying pan. Was that enough processing for the potatoes to be ultra-processed? Gimmie a number.
Are these drugs dispensed only after a properly declared explanation of their risks of side effects?
If so, fat bastards take them with informed consent and if anything goes wrong then it’s down to them. Should have gone for a walk instead, actually.
Does he hold the same view regarding PrEP for HIV? – ‘Just wear a condom’
jgh:
“what’s the definition of “processing” as regards food, and what amount of processing gets to “ultra”?”
The word “ultra” is performative; it’s meant to evoke a feeling (‘this is bad’). As such, it has no fixed definition.
Rather like “climate change” or “unstoppable hypersonic missile” in that way.
@M: “The word “ultra” is performative” Aha; spot on! It’s like “neo” as in neoconservative or neoliberal. It’s presumably based on implying a connection to neo-Nazi.
PiP – lions, natch. Fenris works for the other side.
Are the people who assure us they will be safe the same people who lied about Covid and its vaxx?
I assume Western medical science is still a good thing, a great thing even, but no Western institution is safe from those who would kill it and wear it as a skin suit.
Science™ is the enemy of science.
@Steve, We wouldn’t feed Spud to Fenrir or his little cousins.
After all, he is a very bitter man….
A niþingr like the Elyan Oracle wouldn’t make a decent offering anyways. Or decent anything for that matter.
Grikath – I go with Roger Lancelyn Green’s spelling of these things.
@Steve, He wasn’t …entirely wrong… Jötunr like Fenrir are genderless, and can be either, depending on the occasion.
The old Norse used the masculine referring to it. Green uses the feminine.
Which…. sort of makes sense if you’ve ever seen a she-wolf defend her cubs…
Not ..quite… dripping fire and poison from her fangs… but close…. 😉
It’s a Labour government: how soon before the jabs are compulsory?
Yeah, we’ve been here before with Labour’s compulsory bullshit (not that the Tories are much better), the British can be quite creative when it comes to getting around such diktat’s through our natural bloody mindedness and obstructive behaviour.
I doubt that the rules will be applied to the rubber boat invaders either, since an Islamic Yatagan to the throat often offends bureaucratic sensibilities.
Labour think the electorate at large are sheep for the shearing, but there are some wolves about as well.
Does he hold the same view regarding vaccines for any infectious disease whatsoever? – ‘Just stay at home, avoid people’
Tim,
People can now have doughnuts and also not get diabetes.
No, that’s not how it works. It takes away the desire for doughnuts in the first place.
Grikath – I’ve seen my wife defend her cubs, and it terrifies me.
I can’t recommend RLG’s Myths of the Norsemen enough, it engrossed me as a boy through many re-readings.
Speaking of which, what happened to “ultra-MAGA”, which Biden, Harris and crew were spouting a while back?
Barks, they’ve rebranded to MAGA XXL: For Her Pleasure.
These drugs may curb appetite and so induce weight loss, but none of them are going to address the damage caused by continuing with a bad diet.
