One of Britain’s most prominent feminist writers has revealed that police visited her home to warn they were investigating one of her tweets as a “hate crime”.
Julie Bindel said she received a knock on the door on a Sunday afternoon from two Scotland Yard officers, who told her a “transgender man” from the Netherlands had reported one of her social media posts.
Effectively she told ’em to bugger off. So, they did.
Hey, do what works.
Not a fan of Lesbian Julie, but like a broken clock, she’s occasionally right.
“Got a warrant?”
“No” (or some line of bullshit like “I can easily get one”)
“On your way then”.
People, especially a certain social class of people, tend to believe the police are on their side. That talking to them will help.
It won’t. Because they aren’t.
If the police are going to arrest you then they will arrest you.
Nothing you say will result in them not arresting you.
Once arrested, nothing you say will exonerate a charge, but you can easily talk your way into a charge. Best to expressly invoke your right to legal council and your right to remain silent. Then shut up until your solicitor turns up regardless of the matey conversations from plod.
On the other hand, if plod has no real evidence of anything they can’t arrest you either (Non Hate Crime Incidents being an example) and without a warrant the only thing an “invitation to discuss the matter down at the station” is a Thought Police tactic to get you to shut up about whatever Blob pet your moaning about or alternately get you to talk yourself into a charge.
So again, “Ask if they’ve got a warrant” and if not, stroll on.
Indulging these bastards is just giving them license to behave like the Stasi.
The issue that doesn’t get discussed enough is that these non-crimes go on your record and can lead to not getting jobs as they show up in a DBS check.
The Free Speech Union is doing some good work on this issue and is worth supporting.

Should have said ‘Send fucking Van Der Valk then!’, before slamming the door.
@JG
There are a few cases (e.g. accusations of acts of terrorism) when choosing to remain silent is an offence in itself.
Such statutes (I won’t go to the dignity of calling them “laws”) are offensive to gods and men. Doesn’t surprise me, but if they’re going to fuck me they might as well use the largest tool they’ve got, because fuck them.
Regardless, they can learn nothing from my silence and if they want to take that as contempt for them and their worthless statutes then so be it.
They’d be right. I have nothing but contempt.
They’ve dealt with the “got a warrant” retort in Germany. They always get a warrant. Called a senior politician weak in the head? Cops bashing your door in at 6 AM.
Those interested, or with sufficient German, should go find out what is happening here, and ask yourselves why Britain fought either WW2 or the Cold war, seeing as Stasi/KGB methodology has made it into the mainstream on the continent as in the UK.
John Galt is absolutely right. Never talk to the police. A majority of convictions only happen because the accused admits their guilt, usually in trying to talk themselves out of it.
In any case for politically motivated “crime” you should if accused gum up the works. As the UK is now routinely handing out 2 year immediate custodial sentences for guilty pleas on “criminal” facebook posts you have nothing to lose by pleading not guilty and shutting up.

If unavailable, Van Dyke would do.
There used to be a very good blog written by a senior police officer who got doxxed, although it wasn’t called that in those days, and he always made the point about saying nothing to the police without a lawyer being present.
