Home is the most dangerous place for women, says global femicide report
Where do most women spend most of their time? That’s going to be the dangerous place then.
As with that stat that most traffic accidents happen with a mile (or three, or four, whatever the number is) of home. That’s because most car journeys are of that three or four miles of home.
The person most likely to murder a woman is that woman’s partner. That’s a stat. Unsurprising really, murder is often a personal thing. And you hear that stat often.
If you are aged under 8, the person most likely to murder you is your mum. That’s also an unsurprising stat for the same sorts of reasons. But you don’t hear that stat very often.
Neither stat means partners and mums are inherently murderous. Quite the opposite. Most mums and partners could commit these murders if they wanted to. But the vast, vast, vast majority don’t.
Especially considering the amount of booze my elderly female neighbours seem to consume, judging by the overflowing recycling bins.
My recycling bin gives the impression that I have a drink problem. This is because my favoured tipple, that I normally buy in a pack of four cans, currently works out cheaper if I buy it in tiny glass bottles. They are a bit of a nuisance really but at present they are better value.
@Stonyground – Meth’s isn’t good for you, you know.
So, a report by a bunch of women doesn’t do statistics very well (actually does it quite badly). One wonders if this is because of bias or they’re this bad at all things numerical?
Beds are dangerous, more people die in beds than anywhere else. I’ll get my coat.
“Where do most women spend most of their time? That’s going to be the dangerous place then.”
Not really. That would only be the case if all locations were equally dangerous. Young men don’t have a higher risk of violent street deaths because they spend more time in the street. It’s because they do stupid dangerous things in the street that they don’t do at home or at work.
The most dangerous place for me is the mouth of an active volcano or a fist fight on top of a train in Yugoslavia.
I feel sorry for women.
‘The place that is most dangerous for x is P’
Is not equivalent to:
‘The place were x is most likely to have an accident is P’.
Most people die in hospitals. Steer well clear.
That’s really good advice, Philip!
