The personal security allowance for TDs and senators has been increased fivefold amid mounting fears for politicians’ safety.
Every member of the Dail and Seanad will be entitled to €25,000 to improve security at their homes and offices, including the installation of CCTV, intruder alarms and panic buttons and raising wall heights. It follows a recommendation from Drew Harris, the garda commissioner, after several instances of threats and harassment against politicians.
With Sinn Fein fighting elections instead now surely the risks have gone down?
This is to protect them from the peasants.
Yes, it’s a new threat: the movement for backwards diversity is taking to the streets.
The situation in Ireland is weird. Large camps set up around the country full of the proverbial fighting age males, and hotels being filled with them, too. But why? Ireland doesn’t have our colonial guilt, and has no real need of tens of thousands of unskilled ‘workers’. Maybe the politicians think they might need some of that security.
It’s not the IRA they fear, as Otto & TMB point out.
Make life less safe for all of us. Demand money for protection.
We don’t hate politicians enough.
Although, the Social Democrats got a suspicious package last week. This in the aftermath of suspending a TD who worked for an Israeli company and didn’t divest his options quick enough.
This raises the oft-asked question, what is it that motivates politicians of most western countries to betray their own electorate in this way? They all do it, there is no political pushback of any effect and apparently no penalty. Now it could just be fashion, to look good at dinner parties. It could be a predominance of globalist ideation (which is never in any manifesto)vor, perish the thought, it could be money. Yeah, money.
It’s always money, Rhoda. Always.
Yes it’s money, but what is the flow? Qui bono (apart from the politicians)? Who is buying what by buying the politicians? What do they want and how do they benefit?
That’s what I can’t understand: how the world’s oligarchy benefits from having the unskilled useless replacing skilled, productive, useful workers in the West.
The wicked flee where no man pursueth.
But the righteous are as bold as a lion.
@Julia, and others…
I’m not so much sure that it’s money… Power, certainly, and I’m becoming more and more convinced that “political obsession” is a mental illness. The fact that politicians can spout such arrant nonsense and do such unaccountably stupid things points to a serious disconnect in their thinking. Their approach to reality appears to be at 180degrees, viz “I’ve stated it, therefore it must be a true fact / will happen” v “it’s a proven fact* / it’s happened, therefore I’ll state it”.
* Yes, I know you can’t scientifically prove something to be absolutely true, just prove something to be untrue.
I’m puzzled how the Irish people can for so long wage a bloody campaign against the British (and their own countrymen on account of their praying to the same God in a slightly different fashion) yet remain supine or at best ineffective in the face of the current transformative events.
I only hope Conor McGregor shows the same bloody mindedness and fighting spirit outside the octagon as in it by not backing down and giving the electorate a patriotic and populist alternative to the Hibernian uniparty.
Israel has just announced that it is to close its’ embassy in Ireland due to the degree of anti Israel sentiment shown by the government.
Expect that sentiment to become more obvious in the UK too over the next few years……….
Is Ireland within reach of the Israeli Air Force ?
Yes. The Israelis have tankers. All you’d have to do is tank a bunch of F-35s to the Bay of Biscay. The F-35s peel off and disappear, then pop back up again and everyone goes home. A single tanker would be enough, itself met on the way back by another.

I do think this is the explanation for a lot of the modern world.
Humans are status-seeking animals. Current poltics is that hard-wired instinct metastasing, like some sort of auto-immune disease.
I think what’s happened is that the target that status-seekers seek status from has got smaller and smaller proportion of the population, and tighter and tighter, so they are seeking status from an increasingly smaller number of others, who are all their same in-group. So where the status-seeking instinct used to work by causing status to be sought from the group with “the group” being the whole population, it’s in a acute positive feedback loop of “the group” being a smaller and smaller subset of the population, with ever increasing numbers of the general population being ignored.
