Two teenagers arrested over fatal stabbing of 14-year-old drill rapper on bus
Police detain two boys and 44-year-old woman in connection with murder of Kelyan Bokassa in south-east London on Jan 7
Not to make light of a young lad cruelly done away.
But this idea of someone being a “drill rapper”. Seems a very common occupation judging from newspaper coverage. Now of course I’ve never heard of any of these people – it’s not really aimed at pale and stale like me. Also, there’s no way I listen to teenibop chart countdown each week.
But I’m getting the impression that this isn’t quite what drill rapper means – that connection to the teeniebop charts. Rather, given the cheapness of new media, this is something more like having a Facebook page. Pretty much everyone’s got a video camera these days – phones will record video. Mumble something while filming, stick on social media of choice, you’re a drill rapper. But, not really – in the same way that 60 years ago ringing your bicycle bell didn’t make you a campanologist.
Your “drill rapper video” is seen by the 50 to 200 people in your wider social circuit and that’s it. Some, obviously, do make it to the teeniebopper chart countdowns. But the newspaper descriptions of this or that lad as rappers are about someone shouting into a microphone for Instagram, not anything else.
Given my intense and detailed knowledge of todays youf scene of course all the above could be complete bollocks. But that is how it seems to me.
I thought being a ‘drill rapper’ was pathognomonic for being in some form of violent gang?
Gasman has it
They can’t really say anything bad about the poor lad but it is very telling that this is the most positive thing that they can find.
Rather along the lines of
‘Dog owner, wife and alsatian all found dead in Berlin bunker.’
This story is weird.
Two teenage boys and a 44 year old woman detained? I wasn’t aware 44 year old women were commonly part of the gang scene…
Further down the story.
Mary Bokassa, Kelyan’s mother, had previously said her “very kind and caring” son had been “groomed by gangs”. She said he had spent time on the streets and was “taken advantage of”.
Kind and caring? ‘course ‘e was…
Groomed by gangs? I thought they preferred young white girls…
Oh, not that sort of grooming.
At least the article explains what drill rapping is. I didn’t have a clue.
Seems its violent lyric rapping and this one had a street name of ‘Grippa’.
Reading between the lines, he was a little shit and I for one don’t give a fuck he’s dead. One more threat to us all gone. Shame he didn’t shank the attackers back, maybe take one with him.
I know “Real Man” was upset about Bum Rappers.
In very poor and hopeless segments of society, there’s no perception of a viable path to middle-classdom.
You either strike it rich or you exist forever in squalor. Thus, the old ghetto aspirations of pro sports, or pimpdom, or druglordishness.
Rapper is one more pie-in-the-sky dream. Just like every 6′ black kid used to play bball every spare moment, now they have the tools to record their rap, and try to become the next . . . . I don’t even know who the present ones are, so I can’t pick a name.
Let me guess. These three boys were all conceived by some form of parthenogenesis, as there are no fathers to be found.
These Bokassas – from Bangui to Bexleyheath- don’t have much luck.
philip – you mean Crime works the same way as midichlorians?
Bobby – I can pick a name.
Tiggernits
Funky Keith
Goleesha
Chim-Pan-B
Lil Derek
Afropubes
The Lammys
Afropubes and The Lammys as the name for a barbershop quartet?
No, no, evil to even think of such a disgusting etc (cont. pg 94).
According to the Grauniad & BBC his mother said he was “Due in court shortly himself on charges of carrying a machete”

We have the same thing here with reggaeton. Girl was showing me some video of of her amigo. Seemed to consist of some young bloke making handsigns & shouting in Spanish. The style is store bought synthetic textiles, trainers, fake gold chains, giant watches, tats, sunglasses worn at all times. Amusingly the vid was shot in Malaga airport departure concourse. Whether he’s ever been able to afford to get past the security gate’s unknown. Apparently he’s incredibly famous in that area of Torremolinos north of the bus station.
On the other hand at her age I was hanging around with failures like Robert Plant & Chrissie McVee
Incidentally, another popular fad is videoing yourself lip-syncing & doing the moves to various artists tracks. Which I suppose is the modern version of air guitar riffs.
The Meissen Bison:
“These Bokassas – from Bangui to Bexleyheath- don’t have much luck.”
Much moral progress has been made as a result of migrating to the UK, though. This little scamp might have been rather too fond of machetes, but at least there is no record of him eating his victims.
– Some, obviously, do make it to the teeniebopper chart countdowns.
Yeah, murder a white boy and the BBC will promote your evil shit:

Oh, I’ll take that one. The ‘drill rapper’ meme is a direct import from the US, where any young minority man who is killed under similar circumstances is invariably described to the media by the ‘spokesman for the family’ as ‘an aspiring rapper, a gentle giant, starting college in a few weeks, putting his life together, just welcomed a new baby with his girlfriend, with an adorable cherubic smile and an infectious laugh.’ The accompanying still photograph will always show a happy smiling 8th grader, and not the dreadlocked and tattoo-ed 250# hulk who’s on the slab in the morgue.
The ‘spokesman for the family’ meme will shortly be coming your way, as well. This person will be dressing in the traditional mourning garb of brightly-coloured ‘designer’ clothing, expensive sneakers, extensive hairdo, and vast sunglasses, topped off with extravagant makeup and manicure. They are often accompanied by the ‘family’s attorney’, who is easily identified by the invariably-expressive eyeglasses and bow tie.
Mind you, many a ‘spokesman for the family’ apparently don’t need no lawyer. I saw one recently who, while allowing that that little scamp Tyrecious was, in fact, holding up a liquor store at gunpoint and terrorising the innocent bystanders within, the armed citizen who shot and disabled him should be indicted for attempted murder on the self-evident grounds that Tyrecious hadn’t actually shot anybody, and so the armed citizen should have rather ‘minded his business’ and left Tyrecious to mind his – as it were.
I’m not a great one for stereotypes, but this one is pretty-much dispositive.
llater,

“Apparently he’s incredibly famous in that area of Torremolinos north of the bus station.”
This made me laugh out loud, bravo!
Not to make light of a young lad cruelly done away.
Why not, Tim?
I figure part of the attraction of this gangsta lifestyle is people coming together and wailing, having a vigil and lamenting the loss of a “good, kind, helpful” boy on the national news.
Much better if they show his or her picture, point and laugh and say something about us all being better off now another little shitberg isn’t clogging up the dole office for handouts between crimes.
Basically, Tim.
Its also a go-to thing when you are talking about a dead scrote with no redeeming qualities and this is the closest to ‘art’ they’ve been in their entire lives.
‘He wuz a aspirin’ drill rapper’ sounds better (he didn’ do nuffin’!) than ‘he was a violent petty criminal and not very good at it and got got by other violent petty criminals’.
I was under the impression it was obligatory to be an up & coming footballer to qualify as a stabbing victim. They lowered the bar these days? Soon it’ll be a case of anyone can get stabbed. What’s the world coming to, eh?
Whenever I see the phrase ‘aspiring musician’ or equivalent in relation to a stabbing I automatically parse as a euphemism for a young ethnic minority (although term minority is perhaps no longer appropriate in some parts of London and other major cities) male, who adopts the ‘gangsta’ lifestyle and is probably involved in criminal activity or at least closely adjacent to it. One day I may be surprised when it turns out the a young lady who is a classically trained pianist, but I suspect if that’s the case they’ll actually say so, rather than leading with more ambiguous musical allusions.
As for UK drill rap, it’s the most basic and cliche’d version of the rap genre, rap isn’t to everyone’s tastes, but it does have it’s technical nuances, however crude, vulgar and intentionally unpleasant the subject matter, the practitioners usually aim for some form of clever wordplay, delivery, witticism or lyricism e.g. ‘rap battles’. UK drill basically does away with most of this and largely boils down to basic insults and threats of violence with no attempt at any kind of sophistication. I’m sure some people would find my characterisation offensive, but is almost self-parody, young semi-literate men in tracksuits, with their faces covered, sometimes pawing at their crotches like toddlers who need a pee pee, mumbling about how they are going to/or indeed have stabbed someone from down the road on social media clips. And this is probably the thing, it’s a bit shit, because there’s very little about it that requires much effort, and unless you belong to gang A who is doing the stabbing or gang B just down the road who is getting stabbed, there is absolutely no point in watching it. It’s toddlers sending each other notes written in crayon arguing about whose turn it is on the park swing.
According to one news report I saw as well as being due to appear in court for carrying a machete he had also been asking around if anyone had a knife earlier that day
In the the Islamic Republic of Bradistan when the balloon heads wrap their car into a tree with kilos of drugs in the boot they’re always “aspiring to be a solicitor”
I infer the press moving on from “family spokesman” to “community leaders” would be indicative of an impending escalation.
