Three quarters of ousted Tory MPs eyeing a return to parliament
Survey reveals many defeated candidates are contemplating a comeback, with Grant Shapps leading a group providing training and detailed polling for the party
So, anyone got SirEd’s email addy? Because that’s where most of them should go, right?
Must get back on the gravy train! Their chances are remote. In the way Earendel is a bit far away…
The problem with contacting Sir Ed is that he already has a party of declared Lib Dems with his PPCs all lined up, so the Shapps claque will have to compete with them and they won’t like it.
Remember that party that those Remainer MPs set up? Me neither.
OTOH Shapps might well be organising to resist Kemi actually changing the Tories in any meaningful way, or a Nige putsch.
I see Nick Clegg is at a loose end as well. We risk Westminster becoming like TV, full of tedious repeats.
Wouldn’t it be nice if Nick Clegg took his Meta millions and disappeared from public life for ever to play with train sets? Chances of that happening?
Cockroaches eye a return to your pantry.
The thought that they might in some way have engineered their own downfall will never cross their narrow little minds. They deserve to be in charge because they’re better than us damn it.
It’s a bit like a podcast with Rory Stewart.
Norman,
“OTOH Shapps might well be organising to resist Kemi actually changing the Tories in any meaningful way, or a Nige putsch.”
This is the problem that everyone should grasp about the Conservatives. They might drop some bit of “big fan of Thatcher” now and again to keep the faithful supporting them, but the Conservative Party is like the Church of England, where the people in the pews are pretty sound, but it’s leftwing gayboy vicars all the way up from there. Post-Brexit, I joined, hoping to find and help the Rebel Alliance, the band of Randian and Friedman fanboys to seize control, but they barely exist. The activists and MPs are nearly all socialists like May, Cameron and Boris.
Kemi is never going to be able to bring about the sort of changes that would allow us to deal with immigration because the people who run the Conservative Party won’t allow it.
WB: 100%, which is why Nige is right to want to nuke them from orbit. I see little chance of Trumpist entryism and takeover. Heseltine’s fanboys (and their handlers, donors and clients) will never countenance it.
All progressives (wets, wokies, democrats, tories etc) think they are the Rebel Alliance. But as we know, they really are the Evil Empire.
Lawrence of Arabia quote to his Arab colleagues “as long as you fight tribe against tribe, you will be a small, silly , people.” From memory, something like that. Seems to me that much of the West has become that. Some years since I was in the UK, but from your weird approval of illegal immigration, two tier legal system, drive to net zero, rubbish infrastructure……..etc. Arguing over which political party is elected looks like a waste of time.
What WB said. The Tories are riddled with Davos Remainer High Tax Big Government type MPs. Whatever Kemi says at the top, the rank and file won’t support the radical measures needed to get this country back on track. So a vote for the Tories is a vote for the status quo.
