There is no proper financial education in UK schools, and the ICAEW is still sitting on the money to fund it
What do you think the grift would be for Accounting Streams?
As I noted a couple of years ago, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales had at that time collected more than £140 million in fines from big audit firms who had failed in their public duty to undertake their work to a sufficient standard to protect the public from harm.
Eh?
By the spring of 2024, what looked to be very much like trumped-up allegations of misconduct were being made against me via the ICAEW, and I quit because of the nature of their behaviour.
That’s fun. Anyone know what the trumped up charges were?
“spring of 2024 … allegations of misconduct were being made against me via the ICAEW”
Is this the first time he’s admitted there were allegations? I might be misremembering, but I thought at the time he gave other reasons for leaving.
If they were false, why quit instead of clearing your name?
“I quit because of the nature of their behaviour”
Oh OK. Even if you believe this it’s school playground level stuff.
I predicted in early 2024 that Spud would leave the ICAEW after they beefed up their Continuing Professional Development requirements. It would no longer be possible to self-certify that you had done enough work in that area, you’d actually have to attend some external courses and demonstrate proficiency.
This was round about the time he started his allegations about miss-use of funds by the ICAEW. I predicted he’d use that as an excuse to flounce off.
“allegations of misconduct were being made against me via the ICAEW”
Curious wording. Not BY the ICAEW but VIA the ICAEW.
The revenge of fcablog’s Christie Malry?
That would be amusing if it were.
Tim is absolutely right this is more grift from Murphy.
He demanded millions from them and they told him to take a running jump. He screamed the place down and they threatened to discipline him, so he resigned.

It reflects very badly on the ICAEW that they only considered action against Murphy after he criticised them. Frankly they should have kicked him out years ago.
At the time he said:
“there are not, at present, any professional misconduct complaints outstanding against me”

Now he says:
“misconduct were being made against me”
“there are not, at present, any professional misconduct complaints outstanding against me”
Didn’t say anything about unprofessional misconduct.
<tired old hobby horse> when I was at school, they *did* teach finances…. etc. etc. waves stick, falls asleep </>
Sheesh, I’ve been saying this for *DECADES* now.
I’ll admit to raising some ‘concerns’ to the ICAEW about Murphy’s conduct – both from a professional standards perspective (his writings made zero sense and were often deliberately misleading) from a personality perspective (his blatant and outlandish abuse of anyone who disagrees with him).
I (anonymously) pointed out the standards expected from ICAEW members and where he had clearly contradicted those standards, bringing the name of the ICAEW into disrepute.
A few weeks later I got an email indicating that the issue had been investigated and no further action would be taken. Maybe in some small part, it did have a good outcome,..
Just a thought, but why does he think that an accountancy regulator will be any good at or have specialist knowledge of personal finances? I’ve come across a couple of accountants to whom the equivalent of the cobblers’ shoes could be applied.
One (small) company I was involved with the accountant went bankrupt while doing our audit….
A follow up, I breifly looked at Spud’s posting, and it says “people report” that they had no financial education. Werl, ask all the people who wenty to my school if they received financial education, and they’d probably all say no, regardless of the fact that they actually did. To them it wouldn’t have been “financial education”, it would have been “maffs” or “design for living” or “home economics”, all of which they would have done as part of the non-options courses.
If talking shit were made a capital offence, socialism would end very quickly.
