Sir Keir Starmer’s Chagos Islands giveaway was plunged into fresh controversy on Saturday night after the former Mauritian prime minister who masterminded the deal was interrogated in a money-laundering scandal.
Pravind Jugnauth and members of his family were hauled into the offices of the Mauritian Financial Crimes Commission for questioning on Saturday following a three-hour search of his home.
Police had earlier raided the premises of a close associate of Jugnauth, where they said they found suitcases stuffed with tens of thousands in cash in more than a dozen currencies, Rolex and Cartier watches and UK visas, according to reports. The associate denied the items were his.
No, no, no, of course they’re not his. This is a political set up. Now the other party controls the security services they’re being turned loose on the former government. No, really. Undoubtedly.
We should be handing over territory to a place as crook as that, eh?
The cash was just resting there.
The £9 billion up front will go straight into a cash ISA or perhaps Premium Bonds owned bynthe Mauritian government.
I was grimly amused by the following extract from today’s bbc (naturally) front page “news”item:-
Critics, including some Republicans in Washington, castigated the speech, saying it gave away all of Ukraine’s leverage ahead of any negotiations. It was, they argued, a US capitulation to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“It’s certainly an innovative approach to a negotiation to make very major concessions even before they have started,” said former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, who co-chairs the European Council on Foreign Relation, a think tank.
Mr Bildt must have a conveniently short memory as in those few words he perfectly described the traitorous conduct of Teresa the Appeaser less than a decade ago. Apparently it’s ok just as long as you and your self-serving eu chums are the beneficiaries.
Starmer’s grubby Chagos machinations may yet hasten the implosion of our already dying economy. The fish-faced cow dynamited our entire future.
This is a political set up. Now the other party controls the security services they’re being turned loose on the former government. No, really. Undoubtedly.
A description which interestingly descrives the US every bit as much as Mauritius.
There is no more a rationale for paying Mauritius for taking over the Chagos Islands than there was a moral justification for removing the Chagossians in the first place.
It’s just a way to make TTK as rich as Lord Alli so he can tell him to use the NHS like any other devout Lefty and have his own bloody HIV test done to show TTK, rather than making the poor sap have one himself which would surely leak to the Sun, requiring a preemptive annoucement…
Fun though the idea is I find it hard to believe that TTK’s arse is Alli’s bike park, for the simple reason that Alli has been spreading his largesse widely. He even bought the Growler’s “fashion”. Mmm. That’s just made me think…
Whatever Alli is getting out of all of this, I think there’s more to it than gay action. And TTK’s wife is surprisingly fit.
Rolex and Cartier watches AND UK VISAS!!!!!!!!!!

Carl Bildt is absolutely right, one simply cannot go around making explicit concessions at the beginning of negotiations. No, the adult way of international diplomacy is to go around making implicit concessions before negotiations have begun, for example, having no military to resist an invasion or support your allies.
How the Yanks disgust us.
And then…
Why is the UK government offering to pay anything for anything? There is UK strategic interesting the Indian Ocean, or the Pacific come to that. Yes, there is U.S. strategic interest. And an Australian and New Zealand interest. But why do we care about any of them? There is more business to be done with China in the Indian Ocean and across the Pacific Rim. And Africa is just waiting to be carved up by China and it’s trading partners. So why not just tell the Mauritians to go find some other mug to lease some islands to that they don’t want and don’t know what to do with themselves. And let the Americans join in a bidding war with China for it. Why should we pay for an American base?
Trump is transactional is he? Well then, let’s make it all on a transactional basis.
John – “It’s certainly an innovative approach to a negotiation to make very major concessions even before they have started,” said former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, who co-chairs the European Council on Foreign Relation, a think tank.
Perhaps the delusional cuckolds of Sweden should worry less about Ukraine, and worry more about their children being beaten, raped and murdered by all the Islamic immigrants the Swedish government decided to replace Swedes with?
