Nope

Well, at least, not yet:

Unilever is hiring an army of influencers to help sell its products as its new chief executive claimed customers are “suspicious” about traditional advertising.

The Marmite and mayonnaise maker has announced plans to spend heavily on social media stars in the coming years, in the hope of winning over shoppers on sites such as TikTok.

Imagery of Timmy loving preparing Marmite things will not be available just as yet. Marmite and butter on toast. Marmite and butter on bread, Marmite and butter on a roll – the possibilities are endless!

  1. If they went back to making clever and funny adverts like they did in the past, we wouldn’t need this sort of nonsense.

( The Marmite Inspector ads were hilarious ).

  2. Fairly recent discovery, because we ran out of butter not a health kick, but marmite cut with natural yoghurt on toast works almost as well.

  3. OT

Tim, I keep on getting adverts in Chinese popping up.

Sorry to be racist and all that, but it is bloody annoying.

  4. @Ottokring

Me too, well I think its Chinese.

So much for the sophisticated algorithms from “big tech” tailoring adverts based on the data it holds about us.

  5. I understand a well known politician was duped at a photo call when he was given a Marmite and bacon roll to eat to show what an ordinary bloke he was and not at all Jewish. Sadly for him, it looked like Marmite, but…

  6. I’ve been getting Chinese (Japanese?) adverts for a week or two now.

Today, I’m getting an advert from Curry’s, showing washing machines priced in pounds, but with captions in whatever language it is.

I assume Tim will get paid anyway, but I suspect it may hit his advertising rates in the long term.

  7. I don;t actually get paid for those ads. I think Richard – the codemonkey – does but I’m not sure….

  8. The ads which appear are influenced by your browsing history.

I just wish those ads for hard core farmyard porn would stop appearing.

  9. ‘traditional advertising’? Do they mean haa ing someone famous hawk a product? Like, you know, they want to use influencers to do?

No ads on the PC (I use Adblock plus), but I do get the Chinese ones on the iPad…………

Use Brave on your iPad and bung Tim some money every now and again.

  11. Well yeah. I think the ads I’m getting are Japanese. God only knows why.

As for the butter, I’m buying a cheap ‘spread’ these days. It’s cheaper than the margarine I started eating after the doctor told me to cut back on fats.

  12. Out of interest, are you lot actually getting Chinese adverts? I’m getting Spanish advertising. But it’s the buttons have Chinese characters. Can’t tell you where the links go. Never tried.

  13. Same for me, BiS – English adverts, with Chinese/Japanese* labels on the buttons.

    * if you can tell the difference between Kanji and Chinese ideograms, you’re a better man than I …
