Kill the nimbies
Kill the nimbies
Kill the niiiiiiimbies
Kill the nimbies
Kill the nimbies
And the nimbies are all cunts.
Ahem:
Steve Reed, the Environment Secretary, has approved controversial plans to relocate Anglian Water’s sewage plant in Milton to Honey Hill, as part of a major development across Cambridge which will include 8,000 new homes.
…
Charles Jones, a resident of nearby village Fen Ditton, said: “Anglian Water says it’s unlikely we’d have any odour problems in the village – but that’s not the same as saying you never would.“There’s a number of stresses here, but the most immediate thing is, we are going to lose a slice of Cambridge’s green belt. To see it go with this big industrial thing in the middle of it … Next thing you know, you’ll get speculative developments around the outside.
“It’ll all end up being spoilt and not very good to anybody.”
Dealing with the shit of millions, housing tens of thousands of others, this is “not very good to anybody”. Far, far, more important that Mr. Jones gets to conserve his view of rolling greenery (well, in Cambs, flat greenery) that he doesn’t own nor pay for. Obviously.
“all end up being spoilt and not very good to anybody”
So if Mr Jones is right that no-one will want to come then he can speculate on that and short any developers.
This new lyric being performed by Village People I assume?
“this big industrial thing in the middle of it … Next thing you know, you’ll get speculative developments around the outside.”
Yes, because developers love building houses next to sewage works, they sell far better than ones just looking at the countryside.
It’s easier to get permission for “affordable housing” projects in less attractive locations. There’s one such development round the corner from here in a field prone to flooding which was apparently crying out for a Section106 application and removal from the Green Belt.
Yes, because developers love building houses next to sewage works, they sell far better than ones just looking at the countryside.
I wouldn’t bet against that happening.
My job when I left the Army was building the GEC corporate network. Telecoms had just been deregulated and we could could connect to BT directly in every dial code area and then link all the GEC comply exchanges through private connections and breakout such that all calls outside the network were local. This was a time when only VVIP in a company could make outgoing calls before 1pm.
One of the factories I went to survey was in the middle of a new massive housing estate in Essex. Long story short: They were there first, they were very successful at building extractor fans used in long tunnels and needed to work 24×7 to keep up with orders. This necessitated lots of deliver and collection Lorrie’s and noisy workers.
The factory manager said there was no point connecting them because of complaints from local residents the new noise restrictions meant they couldn’t operate profitably. They hadn’t found anywhere else to do the work and the business was being shut down.
Is it possible to have a legitimate and strong view on something we don’t own or pay for?
Animal cruelty, abortion, and euthanasia, for example?
Off-piste rant (perhaps it was a part of the title that was the pull)
No idea if others use PAYE Basic Tools, but HMRC truly are fucking cripples (polite version).
They have just borked a perfectly capable program (for doing basic RTI returns) completely unnecessarily. And then refuse to do anything to mitigate that.
Steve, we need more than lions for those worthless IT rodents. And ringing their call centre? ChatGPT is more sentient than their brain-dead script bots. Repeated chants of “Computer says no” (ie, “Fuck off”) was the total sum of the response.
Yes, because developers love building houses next to sewage works, they sell far better than ones just looking at the countryside.
They do, they do. We’ve got a new estate being built right next to our existing sewage farm. We’ve nicknamed it “Pooh Corner”. You can tell why when walking past a quarter mile away.
– Animal cruelty, abortion, and euthanasia, for example?
Indeed. Add illegal immigration and grooming gangs. You get your democratic choice but beyond that it’s nowt to do with you and shut the fuck up. Villages overwhelmed by asylum camps? Fuck you, nimbys.
How about having an open cast mine put next to your house, Tim?
Or an artillery range?
Or an animal rendering plant?
Or a new encampment of 500 migrants?
Everyone would draw the line somewhere.
To paraphrase Churchill, ‘We have established that you are a Nimby – we are simply haggling about the development.’
Or a rather noisy bar that keeps late hours?
PF – HMRC’s slogan should be “Fuck you, pay me”
Candidly, there aren’t enough sycamore trees for these little bastards.
Far, far, more important that Mr. Jones gets to conserve his view of rolling greenery (well, in Cambs, flat greenery) that he doesn’t own nor pay for. Obviously.
I tend to fell that about anything anywhere. “Preserving natural beauty” is basically giving middle class cunts from cities something nice to look at when they visit. Most of the people actually live in these places are more interested in doing something with them. After all, all those picturesque Cotswold villages were originally someone’s new development.
Plan seems to be for sealed digesters – anerobic, capture the methane. Good for the ole planet and no smell. Hence tallish tanks. Athough 29m isnt exactly a skyscraper.
Mr Jones seems to live in Fen Ditton, 1 km+ the other side of a dual carraigeway from the Honey Hill site. So even if he could see that far, its hardly an uninterrupted vista of lovelyness already.
Officially*, the population of the country is what, 10m more than before Blair and Brown diarrhoead on us? And that is net of those who’ve been able to escape.
Imagine if we’d not imported that 10m. Even, imagine if the escapees had decided to stay. We’d have none of this, and you could buy a house, even down south, with three or four bedrooms and a decent sized garden.
Nah, fuck the green and pleasant. Let’s diversity it.
* yeah, lol.
When did y’all switch from the standard area unit – football pitches – to the uppity Wembley Stadium units?
“What is that in cubic elephants?”
To be fair, if I bought a nice house in the ‘burbs and someone wanted to build a sewage plant near me, I’d become NIMBY myself.
At that point, it’s every man for himself.
Well, yeah bobby b. I live in the nice old family home in the ‘burbs and I’d be a bit cranky if someone decided to knock down the house next to me and build apartments. Let alone build a sewage plant next to it.
If we’d only decided not to import that 10 million, as Deveril points out, we’d now only have 17 instead of 27 million.
But I think the main problem is that we’re too nice these days. Instead of working out what sort of migrants suit US, we worry about THEIR needs. I think we need a lot more of what Tim’d call selfishness. And I’d call common sense.
“Anglian Water says it’s unlikely we’d have any odour problems in the village …”
Well, they would say that, wouldn’t they?
And the Milton Road one does sometimes stink. As does that Bio_Digester on the way to Baldock.
I take it that nobody who hates sewage works ever takes a shit. Or that their farts don’t stink.
BIS,
No. The Cotswolds are these people now. It was gentrified in the 80s. There’s a tiny chunk of the population who are farmers and inbred farmhands Most of the Cotswolds is affluent middle class people. The executive class that work in Swindon, Oxford, Gloucester. Or wealthy retired people. These places are stuffed with organic shops, artisan bakers, fancy clothes and decor shops.
The average house price in Swindon is £260k. It’s £400k in Cirencester. £550k in Burford. £430k in Moreton n Marsh. Stroud is about the only place that’s cheap and that’s a dump.
You have to go down into Wiltshire and Somerset to get cheap countryside. Like Calne, Melksham or Devizes. Devizes is quite nice but it’s cheap because of bad transport links.
