I disagree with the claim that private property is natural.
Ah, right, to The Pope fails the Sage of Ely Test. Good to know.
I am not sure he is a liberal. His attitude towards LGBTQ matters is open to doubt.
Not really, no, the Catholic Church is really rather clear on such matters.

“I disagree with the claim that private property is natural.”
You can check that out by taking a bull mastiff’s bone away. You need to be careful, as a lot of them have been brainwashed by capitalist ideology.
“I disagree with the claim that private property is natural.”
So no objection to having one of your kidneys and a cornea removed and transplanted to someone on an NHS waiting list then?
What, all of a sudden, you think your body parts ARE privatre property Spud?
So it’s all round to Spuds place for our napalm games, eh?
In fairness the full horror is this:
I disagree with the claim that private property is natural. I do agree that the state has the right to control its use for the sake of the public good. I see no reason why the state should want to eliminate it altogether. But I stress, I see what I wrote in the Taxing Wealth Report as entirely consistent with the last sentence. The aim was to be fair when the system of tax we have is not.
The problem is who defines the public good. If it’s the likes of Murphy it’s likely my son will be discriminated against actively on grounds of his race and gender for his entire life and that my daughter could well be either molested by the various Alphabet soup brigade members or attacked by various religion of peace adherents. From my perspective neither is an enticing prospect and I’d argue private property prevents the state acting for what it deems to be ‘the public good’ – Indeed the key goal of politics is the reduction of the state to the role it played prior to the First World War, if not earlier.
I am sure Catholics the world over will be delighted that the conclave’s choice has such an endorsement from a source who is the living equivalent of the being referred to in scripture as Satan.
The aim was to be fair when the system of tax we have is not.
And of course Spud gets to define ‘fair’.
I did wonder if he’s been sitting around waiting for a call from the Vatican.
So the “is the Pope Catholic?” joke is back on now?
What seems likely is that we have a Pope who quite profoundly disagrees with the White House. He directly criticised J D Vance in February.
If he’s wise, he’ll knock that politics shit off right away and stick to the sacraments. It would be embarrassing (for him) if JD Vance is more popular than the Pope.
I am not sure he is a liberal.
He broke the Guardian, gave it to his disciples and said, take this, all of you and read it: this is my liberalism, which will be given up for you. Do this in memory of MS-13 gang members.
More people don’t understand what they claim is their own religion:
Unearthed comments from new pope alarm LGBTQ+ Catholics
After years of sympathetic and inclusive comments from Pope Francis, LGBTQ+ Catholics expressed concern on Thursday about hostile remarks made more than a decade ago by Father Robert Prevost, the new Pope Leo XIV, in which he condemned what he called the “homosexual lifestyle” and “the redefinition of marriage” as “at odds with the Gospel”.
Good luck concern trolling the Creator of the Universe.
Stop bumming people or you’re going to Hell – the catechism of the Catholic Church.
Like our recent discussions about what a “woman” is, dishonest and wicked people will pretend this is all very complicated and up for debate. Because they’re not actually Christians, they just want bum fun.
Steve
I think the term back in the day was ‘Arse Bandit’ – my late father used to bemoan that ‘Arse bandits had been given permission to marry’ on a regular basis. He wasn’t overly complimentary about their appropriation of the word ‘Gay’ from its original meaning, either.
Like our recent discussions about what a “woman” is, dishonest and wicked people will pretend this is all very complicated and up for debate. Because they’re not actually Christians, they just want bum fun.
A succinctly and superbly put as ever – These people are wicked and profoundly dishonest. Labour is the party of child molestation and Gang rape.
>Not really, no, the Catholic Church is really rather clear on such matters.
The *church* is, sure. Popes? Not so much. Take the last one, for example.
>I disagree with the claim that private property is natural.
Even animals have the concept of ‘mine’. My food, my territory, etc. Sure, there’s no physical law that prevents me from taking your stuff, but at its core violence is used to enforce property rights across the animal kingdom.
Your stuff is your stuff as long as you can defend it. So in a sense he’s correct – when the majority has the ability to deploy enough violence they *will* take your stuff. And he wants the majority to have that capability. Which is why he’s a horrible man who doesn’t understand that he’d be first up against the wall – ‘the good ones’ always are.
I’m not happy with the gay marriage as it redefined a very simple easy to understand concept – the joining together of a man and a woman.
The civil partnership was the same thing but with the ability to have whatever fetish you wanted to define yourself on each side of the joining together.
But it wasn’t enough to have parity, they (gayist activists and TPTB) wanted to fuck off the normal people and piss all over their family units.
VP – Thank you. I ain’t got nothing against the pooves, I still like George Michael and Elton John.
What boils my piss is liars. These “LGBTQ+ Catholics” groups don’t want to follow God, they want God to change to suit them. If they wanted to follow the Lord, they would start with mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
There’s a lot of false shepherds out there who would have you believe that what Jesus ACKTUALLY meant was something about climate change, agreeing that sexual immorality is a good thing, or the holy cause of mass Third World immigration. What are the odds that the Creator of Spacetime just happens to have the same opinions as a 2025 liberal arts graduate on Twitter? Zero. We’ve read His book.
Ag – if private property was wrong, God wouldn’t have told us not to steal or covet.
God did tell us those things, so we can safely conclude that communists go straight to Hell, which has always been a Courageous State.
Steve
They’re the latter day equivalent of The Reverend Dr Spacely – Trellis – the ‘Go ahead bishop of Bevindon’ – although I always look at the Alphabet soup brigade and wonder if it would even have been beyond Peter Simple to satirize……
VP – I can’t understand them, the Spacely-Trellii and the Rev. Peter Nordwestdeutschers. There’s a lot about.
If you were called by God to the ministry, shouldn’t you be preaching God’s word, shriving your flock, tending to the sick, etc. instead of primly preaching about heat pumps?
My friend, the ex-Anglican priest, has learned nothing from his recent troubles, sad to say. But I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say he talked himself out of a job with the climate change stuff, the pews were emptier every time I visited his church. Lovely guy, well intentioned, but people really don’t want another lecture on net zero in a freezing dark building. They want redemption.
Steve, God had to *tell* you that – he didn’t write private property into the rules of the universe.
I disagree with the claim that private property is natural. I do agree that the state has the right to control its use for the sake of the public good.
Didn’t some Italian geezer have a similar idea?
@Steve – “groups don’t want to follow God, they want God to change to suit them”
What’s wrong with that. It’s like JK Rowling writing a new version of Harry Potter.
I give it five minutes before Leo and Donald have an unholy row.
Leo is a fanatic about migrant rights.
Why he is so popular in S America is a mystery. If I was President of Columbia (e.g.) I wouldn’t be cheering on all the citizens fleeing the country. Sure, some of them are narco gangsters but most of them are just mobile reasonably well educated young males. Lose them, you lose.
Charles – What’s wrong with that. It’s like JK Rowling writing a new version of Harry Potter.
Hell is a big place, and they stick forks up your bum.
Ag – I’m not sure where private property rights would fit in the standard model of physics? On the other hand, most of being a parent is telling them “stop that!”, “don’t do that!” and “never do that!”.
Philip – Leo is a fanatic about migrant rights
So it would seem. I’m not sure why, there’s no justification in either Biblical text or 2,000 years of Catholic exegesis for the idea that we need no fewer than five Turkish barbers per village. Or that random small towns in Ohio should randomly be blessed with 20,000 hungry, hungry Haitians nobody voted for. But the Bible repeatedly exhorts people to obey laws and secular authorities, so we can say that illegal immigrants are ungodly, for they are international scofflaws. And encouraging crime is a foolish thing to do.
“Migrants” are a fetish totem for the ultimate luxury believers. Hopefully the Holy Spirit imbues Pope Leo with the wisdom not to get involved in political slapfights with the Trump administration, for the Holy Father will find at least 80% of Catholics siding with the Trump administration. This argument about national sovereignty has also been fought and tested to destruction across various Western democracies over the last 8 years plus. Nobody’s changing their minds now except the voters who keep preference cascading to the “populist right” (dangerous radicals who think it should be more like 1996 again) and that’s the clear preference of the masses, wherever that preference is allowed to be expressed.
Btw the Trump administration has been doing the Lord’s work defunding “Catholic” charities involved in the Big Immigration scam. Don’t let the holy act fool you (it didn’t fool DOGE), these outfits are exactly like every other Big Charidee grift, and were raking in taxpayers’ cash to support repopulating the United States with an eclectic mix of illegally arrived Central and South meso-American or African peasants, many of them with priors for gang membership, rape, or murder. I.e. people any sane country would immediately deport with a black eye, not pay to live in their country. As is now happening. Rejoice! Rejoice!
“This argument about national sovereignty has also been fought and tested to destruction across various Western democracies over the last 8 years plus. ”
Yup. Plus, the last time the papacy got involved in those types of questions, on and off roughly between about 800 and 1929, it lost.
Given the bible is mostly self contradictory platitudes, the Creator of the Universe seems to have a speech disability. Or was possibly a Tory.
@Steve – “Hell is a big place, and they stick forks up your bum.”
After I’m dead? They’d better get on with it quickly before i decay away to nothingness.
