The NHS was given an extra £11 billion for two years, but much of it has been swallowed up by the 22 per cent salary increase for junior doctors, now known as resident doctors.
One NHS trust revealed it had to cut 600 clinical roles along with a further 1,000 office jobs to reduce costs. It also told NHS England it would no longer provide some specialised services if it did not receive extra funding.
Another trust is cutting palliative care beds in the community, restricting stop smoking services and reducing hospital referrals, while a third trust is no longer accepting referrals for adults with ADHD.
When’s the “Save the bureaucrats” demo?
“no longer accepting referrals for adults with ADHD”
Well there’s your problem there.
Why is that considered a clinical issue ?
There should only be three things in a doctor’s bag : a bottle of brandy, a piece of wood to bite on and a clean saw.
“restricting stop smoking services”: according to Worstall doctrine such a restriction will save the NHS money in the long term.
“now known as resident doctors”: well, no doubt they are resident somewhere. Know wot I mean?
I was told about this back in March by a friend whose wife works in the NHS. I was wondering when it would hit the media.
The implication here is the the NHS “needs” 10 office workers for every 6 clinical staff members.
In say a car production factory those 6 direct production workers would be supported with just 2-3 office and administration staff.
I would love to see the NHS HR and DEI departments go on strike, demanding more money. It would be interesting to see how quickly the system collapses, or not.
The NHS is taking the local council approach to cost saving.
Ignore the pen pushing bureaucrats adding no value, and close down the front end services that people actually use.
Penseivat @ 9.45, I remember an old Ilford driver (Jimmy C) having the ‘benefit’ of a cab ride from a BR Board member. The driver said, “what difference would it make to our passengers if you went sick right now”? Bloke didn’t know.
Jimmy said “what difference would it make to our passengers if I went sick right now”……….
With the smoking rate having declined so much, you’d think Stop Smoking services would be up for big cutbacks anyway.
Shouldn’t the NHS ‘Stop Smoking’ service be a leaflet saying ‘Try vaping instead’?
