Counter-terrorism police are investigating the possibility that a hostile state may have been behind the arson attacks against the Prime Minister.
On Tuesday night, a 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of targeting two properties and a car linked to Sir Keir Starmer was questioned by specialist detectives from Scotland Yard’s SO15 counter-terror command.
A foreign state is likely to have grasped that he doesn’t live there now. Also, a foreign state that wished us ill would be leaving him in office, no?
Neat if highly predictable way of avoiding releasing inconvenient details about the perpetrator.
Ongoing investigation you know…..look, a squirrel!!
A bit of performance art either to deflect from an unsavoury DPP act or to say ‘actually TTK is relevant in the wider world’.
TTK may be the worst PM in living memory, but he does at least seem to want to be able to enjoy his own gilded retirement, which means he can’t destroy absolutely everything. Labour’s majority is so large it’s effectively a dictatorship for the next 4 years. Imagine how much worse things could get if Ange or Ed moved into no. 10?
The “security forces” could put it down to some incompetent nut job with a box of matches who didn’t know who actually owned the property, or alternatively they can take credit for taking down an international terrorist cell sponsored by Russia/Iran/N Korea/Ely Popular Front, whose next act would have been to use WMDs against the general public. Which is going to make them look best and help next time budgets are being discussed?
Loved the comment doing the rounds on Twitter this morning:
‘Following news of the dreadful fire at Kier Starmer’s house, I set up a page asking for donations.
So far I’ve received 75 litres of petrol, 20 gas cylinders, 210 wooden pallets, 50 box of matches, 90 cigarette lighters, and half a ton of out of date Chinese fireworks.’
“TTK may be the worst PM in living memory” Can’t you remember Bloody Blair?
Blairs open borders policy caused more permanent damage to the country than pretty much every previous or subsequent PM combined, even including TTK and Theresa the traitorous fish faced cow.
(To my lasting shame she received my real vote in 2017).
Don’t mind the EU free movement thing of Blair although it got abused a bit by including entitlements to housing benefit and tax credits, but ok in principle.
It was the climate change act, the equality act, the PFIs, and starting wars in Iraq on the fake evidence of one dissident Iraqi informant, and that Afghan bollocks where our reason for being there was a bunch of Saudis flying planes into New York.
I think everyone forgets how much damage Attlee did to this country. But yes, Blair.
Twenty odd years ago, a foreign state would first try and dig up dirt on the PM and then release the dirt to media and then sit back and watch. From what I understand, the media know all about an open secret concerning TTK, but they do not want to write about it, leading to all sorts of speculation.
There was a time when the public would care if their PM was hiding something: drug use, extra marital affairs, undiscovered love child, etc. Now, no one cares. Either because they feel such secrets are endearing or because the public are just so cynical that such revelations have no impact.
Which means that if a foreign state wants to damage the UK PM, then they really might have to resort to something extreme.
I agree with the point that if it was a hostile state, they’d have to be a pretty stupid hostile state, to try to remove TTK, since he is doing so much harm to the country.
Have they considered the possibility that the bungled attempt to off TTK was the action of a FRIENDLY state?
@TtC Not even necessarily a “friendly” nation.
We were pretty much unsurprised when the whole “Trump is Satan Incarnate” media assault led to some deranged sod(s!) actually attemting to take a shot at him. With one almost succeeding.
The result of that is, as they say, history….
It isn’t that hard to … incite… some of the “All-Inclusive” and/or “Green”crowd to take action against their “own” representatives. Because they’re doing “not enough fot the Cause”.
Get some Righteous Warrior to do the Deed, fob it off on the Other Side, if you can, and do a Trump Resurrection on the tut-tut sentiments.
Why look abroad, when the UK has plenty of home-grown nutters, with sympathetic Media who only entrench them in their extremism?
Salamander, I see what you did there.

Nice idea, but are there any left?
Fat lot of good having ‘specialist detectives from Scotland Yard’s SO15 counter-terror command’ did you. Is their mission to capture assassins, not prevent assassinations?

I’m old enough to remember Harold Wilson
@ Norman
I was only 5 when the voters threw Attlee out but I have read enough to supplement my memories and I am firmly convinced that Harold Wilson was the worst PM in my lifetime. Major Attlee would never have called a volunteer RAF WW2 pilot a “small frightened man” as did the former WW2 civil servant, nor abolished Grammar Schools (Attlee oversaw much of the implementation of the Butler Education Act), nor would he have sheltered a KGB Agent (the rumour that Wilson was one was down to a translation error putting “Leader of the Labour Party” instead of “Chairman of the Labour Party”).
I could list dozens of reasons why Wilson was worse (the one that would appeal to readers of this blog is that he made politics a means of “earning” a well-above-average income instead of a way of spending some of one’s wealth to support one’s beliefs: leading to the political careers of the Mi,libands, Cameron etc. My personal gripe is that he destroyed the economy of the North-East to satisfy Frank Cousins.
In fairness he was the victim of a hostile state – The UK. As seen in the recent elections, the UK population is highly hostile to this government.
This is the worst government in human history, despite supplications on Wilson from one commentator. Blair obviously created the regime we see but his time in office, although marked by activity which at a conservative estimate put him liable to over 150 counts of treason was for me not as bad as Starmer.
I’ll be blunt – this government is worse on many issues, including DIE and Trans than North Korea – by a substantial margin as well.
I note that his sister-in-law and her family are living in his house for a peppercorn rent. It hadn’t occurred to me that he was overflowing with the milk of human kindness.
Now, about this other property he owns. What’s the story there?
The flaw in the second thesis is that if TTK got two-tiered, Angela Rayner would be PM.
I’m old enough to remember Harold Wilson
I was going to mention him and Heath, the original uni party.
In all this talk of the worst PM, has everybody forgotten Boris?
“a foreign state that wished us ill would be leaving him in office, no? ”
I’ll just point out that he is still in office. And the attack was very unlikely to have injured him as he is well known for living elsewhere currently.
In reference to the worst PM.
There were UK PM’s who allowed slavery, human rights abuses, genocide and famine. Look ar the potato famine that killed 1 million Irish.
Look at the famous Truss issues of wrecking the economy.
I agree with all of you that Starmer needs to move to the left and cut poverty.
