The usually tranquil roads were busy as guests arrived in Mercedes vans at the small medieval parish church of St Michael and All Angels in Great Tew. As any student of Britain knows, class doesn’t change in hte one generation. Over three it definitely does. Two sometimes.

dearieme: in the distant past I saw a clip on TV of Angus Ogilvy meeting his wife (Princess ?) off a flight, and he was in full morning dress on the tarmac. I did wonder why he had his wedding gear on (I was young and untutored).
I notice that there are no photos of the happy couple in the Times article. Presumably they have done a deal with Hello magazine for the exclusive coverage.

So her mother was an unnamed show-jumping champion? Or is this another example of journalists being incompetent even at their own craft?
Trouble is, either seems quite possible.
And there was me thinking Brucie was actually the salt-of-the-earth working-class type he purports to be.
An upward marriage doesn’t gain you class, you either already had it (Middleton or previously Grace Kelly) or you didn’t and likely never will (Markle).
It sounds as if everyone involved in this rather “look at meeeee” display was nearer the Markle end of the spectrum.
As for Springsteen sticking it to the man by aping the man – how very very sad even if his shallowness has been apparent for the best part of twenty years.

I say this as someone who is always on the look out for someone playing dress-up, and honestly, Springsteen’s music doesn’t do a lot for me, but from what I’ve read I think Springsteen’s legit.
And he’s made money honestly, paid taxes. He wants to pay for horses, fine by me? Up to them, I’m all for people making good. Kiri Te Kanawa’s dad ran a trucking business and she only got to London to study by winning a singing contest.
To me Springsteen is a bit like Dylan, I quite like some of the songs as long as they are being sung by someone else.
