Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, has been accused in parliament of profiting from the proceeds of gay brothels reported to have been run by his late father-in-law, ratcheting up a political furore.
Alberto Feijóo, the leader of the conservative Popular Party (PP), alluded in parliament to gay saunas and brothels allegedly run by Sabiniano Gómez, the father of Sánchez’s wife.
Until now, mainstream politicians had refrained from invoking Gómez’s murky past, but, in front of a packed chamber debating corruption allegations rocking the government, Feijóo accused Sánchez of benefiting from the business.
Yes, the accusation has been rumbling along in the background for years. Brothels are legal in Spain (I think?) so it’s the ick factor. But still fun, eh?
The hilarious thing about these allegedly rectitudinous lefties is that eventually they are invariably exposed as corrupt frauds. Even telly evangelists have more integrity.
Brothels are legal in Spain (I think?)
Technically no but practically yes. It’s not much different from the UK. Just a bit more in your face.
I got the impression that they’re, as BiS says, technically not legal, but remain “unmolested” as long as the local senior plod and Guardia get their kick-backs. 🙂
I doubt the kickbacks. Contrary to popular belief there’s just not that much money in the business. Surplus on the supply side. Most of them are barely scraping by. Compounded by the people running them, like almost all in the business, have failed at everything else they’ve ever tried. Why they’re in it. So they’re not particularly good people for maximising business potential.
The “club” near me has over a hundred rooms for girls. Currently, at the height of the holiday season, I’m told it may have 40 at weekends. Off season it can drop to a handful. You’d make more money running it as a conventional hotel. But this is what they do so they continue doing it. And you can forget the much advanced theory they’re money laundries. Most of the money goes out with the girls. The club’s only its bar take & the room rents & the pricing keeps the bar take to peanuts.
