Emmanuel Macron is pressuring Sir Keir Starmer to recognise Palestine as a state.
1) What are the borders?
2) Who is to be recognised as the de jure government?
I suppose if we recognise Hamas then we get to try them at the International Court of whatever for going to war and so we can hang them. But would that actually happen?
From what i’ve seen of the arab bits of ‘palestine’ lately, it looks a state already…..
As Golda Meir said, if the arabs were happy with the pre-1967 borders why did they invade Israel?
And in any case, it seems that anyone who ‘wants their country back’ “should just shut the fuck up”.
Macron is desperate for a legacy.
Anything.
At the moment, all he has to look forward to is “that little guy who ,arrived his granny”.
Married
You stupid autocorrect
We did this on 16th September 1922. The Arabs got everything east of the river Jordan.
“all territory lying to the east of a line drawn from a point two miles west of the town of Akaba on the Gulf of that name up the centre of the Wady Araba, Dead Sea and River Jordan to its junction with the River Yarmuk: thence up the centre of that river to the Syrian frontier.”
They were granted internal self-rule in 1923 under Emir Abdullah bin al-Hussein.
Job done, right?
Gaza is certainly in a right state.
There’s a case for recognising Kurdistan and Taiwan, possibly a few others, as independent countries. That would upset the bigger neighbours and leave a legacy for sure.
@Otto
And like all proper grannies, she recently gave him a spanking for being a naughty boy.
‘Emmanuel Macron is pressuring Sir Keir Starmer’
Pressuring?
‘Macron demands Starmer recognise Palestine as state’
Demands?
Me thinks the Telegraph writer is a bit excitable.
Wait . . . Ben Riley-Smith, Henry Samuel, Hannah Furness . . . it took 3 to write this fine article?
There’s already a Palestinian state. It’s called Israel.
Most of Palestine is already free from the river to the sea, it’s called Israel.
There’s already a two-state solution, it’s called Israel and Jordan.
@Otto
“that little guy who married his granny”
Or grandpa… if the rumours are true.
The problem is that the Palestinians won’t draw a line. Not even an opening place to negotiate from.
They’re the Borg and Israel are Jean-Luc Picard. Most of the west think you can just give them a bit more and they’ll go away. And they won’t.
