Why American journalism sucks

“Most college applications don’t have a box for Indian-Ugandans so I checked multiple boxes trying to capture the fullness of my background,” he told the Times.

The Times’s decision to pursue and publish the story was, at the very least, unwise.

For one thing, it came to the Times due to a widespread hack into Columbia’s databases, transmitted to the paper through an intermediary who was given anonymity by the paper. That source turns out to be Jordan Lasker, who – as the Guardian has reported – is a well-known and much criticized “eugenicist”, AKA white supremacist.

Traditional journalism ethics suggests that when news organizations base a story on hacked or stolen information, there should be an extra high bar of newsworthiness to justify publication. Much of Big Journalism, for example, turned their noses up at insider documents offered to them about JD Vance during last year’s presidential campaign, in part because the source was Iranian hackers; in some cases, they wrote about the hack but not the documents.

The Mamdani story, however, fell far short of the newsworthiness bar.

Look at the way people have been talking about it. It’s news, therefore. Even if it is inconvenient for the project.

The absurdity of feeling that a university needs to ‘understand the fullness of an applicants background’ goes unnoticed….

Indian-Ugandan???? I thought Idi Amin fixed that years before he was born.

Strange how the Left’s flagbearers always seem to be trustafarians. It’s almost as if background isolated from reality is a requirement to believe their views 🙂

You won’t see the great Julia M coming and she’s spot on here. The absurdity of the whole ‘box ticking’ exercise makes the skin crawl to be honest. As does the fact that despite it being ruled illegal by the Supreme Court, it’s partisans continue to act as the equivalent of societal termites determined to bring the edifice of the USA tumbling down.

The opinion side of the Times is entitled to its opinion, however misguided. But straight news articles, by contrast, aren’t supposed to go to bat for or against candidates. They’re supposed to be neutral and non-partisan, not cheering on one candidate or kneecapping another.

You’d have to be like a real-life Truman Burbank or as stupid as Richard Murphy to think that holds good for the New York Times.

So, hacked or stolen info is OK in certain situations. Yeah, I’m sure that type of “ethics” won’t be influenced at all by the politics involved.

Jeets and journalists are shameless liars, and everyone knows he was stealing an affirmative action place from actual Americans.

That source turns out to be Jordan Lasker, who – as the Guardian has reported – is a well-known and much criticized “eugenicist”, AKA white supremacist.

All the best white supremacists are Jews.

And on Fox News, talkshow hosts used the Times story to trash Mamdani. Charlie Hurt, for one, called the mayoral candidate a racist on Fox & Friends and claimed that Mamdani despises America “and everything that we stand for”.

All true. Americans should cancel his citizenship and deport him. He can try being the mayor of Kampala. Same goes for Margaret Sullivan, there must be a ruined castle in Ireland somewhere missing a postmenopausal banshee.

The Epstein Files cover up shows the truth of quality journalism in the USA.

The American elites are now claiming there was no Epstein Flies. It is all made up.
American elites are claiming the Epstein Files don’t exist.
And elites in both parties breath a sigh of relief. at the cover up. What a joke.
The American journalists will help the cover up as they want to stay close to the reps and dems.
I am not falling for that ibviois nonsense drivel.
Here is an insane idea;
We all know Trump was close friends with Epstein. And people wonder where Epstein got his dosh from and connections?
Some conspiracy theorists are accusing foreign statss.
But what about this insane conspirscy theory ?
Maybe Trump helped set up the entire Epstein operation to become President and then pretended it was somebody else.
After all Musk accused Trump of being in the Epstein Files.

wonderful publish, very informative. I ponder
why the opposite specialists of this sector do not notice
this. You must continue your writing. I’m confident,
you’ve a huge readers’ base already!

Maybe they should use black instead of African American. Elon is is African, but that’s not what they mean. American. Yanks seem scared to use the word black, I guess for fear of being called racist. It does however lead to the amusing anguish you see in yanks when they refer to black people from other countries as African American.

I remember being asked by a big friendly black receptionist at a NHS outpatient appointment what my race was for the form. I asked if it had any relevance to my medical treatment. She said not. I said put me down as African Origin then, as we’re all out of the Rift Valley if you go back far enough. She laughed approvingly.
