You mess with herbivores that can tackle the large african carnivores….

I had a friend who was an international hunter. He confided that he didn’t want the family to say he died of a heart attack at 85. He thought much better, even noble, to be mauled by a lion at 79.
The family would never, ever forget him.

One where the winner is not preordained
Or he preferred a preordained outcome, but was caught unawares. Preordained outcomes might encourage conservation of species, but they are not sporting…
Should have taken a gun with him…
AIUI, it takes a lot of lead to stop a charging cape buffalo…

A mate of mine (a vet) was out in SA two weeks ago (following his son’s rugby tour) and watched his own mate (also a vet) nearly killed by a Cape Buffalo – they were darting them for transport elsewhere and the beast in question had enough in him to charge their vehicle with my mate’s mate (who had been taken unawares and then slipped off the back of the vehicle when the driver took off as the beast charged) clinging to the back of it and being dragged through the bush for two hundred metres before it collapsed. Apparently all very funny. When roused a buffalo can destroy your average pick-up apparently.
It’s not called ‘the pursuit of dangerous game’ for nothing…
Should have taken a gun with him…
Should have taken a better PH with him, Grist, it’s his sole job to prevent this sort of thing, and why his fees are sky high!
Cape Buffalo are extremely dangerous…

‘Watkins was hunting with Coenraad Vermaak Safaris.’
Well, Connie, I won’t be hiring you.
