Detailed examination of statistics evades ‘im, dunnit?

And, we will punish already stretched households, not least because there is excessive inflation in foodstuffs, primarily as a consequence of Brexit, since the same phenomenon is not being seen in Europe.

Oh. Right.

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 3.6%

Core CPI (CPI excluding energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco) rose by 3.7%

Core CPI does not include foos while CPI does. Core CPI is ower than CPI. Therefore it’s not food driving the rise in CPI, is it? Therefore not Brexit….

As negative cycles of economic stupidity go, that one is well up there in the firmament

Well, yes, I suppose it is….

File under “bitter, deluded cunt”.

Both Goebbels and Stalin would be contemptuous of the poor quality of propaganda this cunt attempts, when he makes bald assertions that 30 seconds Googling ONS data refute.

Lest we forget – he has been forced to issue a policy update for the numerous ‘neoliberals’ and suchlike that have infested the comments

Due to the large number of comments received on this blog, attention has to be prioritised for those comments that appear to be made in good faith. Using a proper name that closely accords with that provided in an email address does not prove good faith, but in my opinion, it most certainly helps. Those who post using any of the following characteristics are, as a consequence, very much more likely to have their comments deleted without explanation being offered:

They use an incomprehensible username, often made up of little more than random letters.

Their email address includes what appear to be random characters or numbers, meaning that it is very unlikely to be in common usage.

They use an address provided by a supplier of disposable email addresses.

Their URL is the same as that of somebody who has previously been found to be trolling.

They post using a single first name. That is confusing when there are large numbers of commentators on this blog, many of whom might share that person’s name. Please use a first name and an initial as a minimum. Two initials would be preferred. This does not apply to existing, established commentators.

In addition to the above, if you ask for a comment and I consider that you could have secured the information you ask for in other ways, then I reserve the right to delete your request without providing a reply. I do not have unlimited time available to repeat explanations that have been previously supplied in the 23,000 posts I have made on this blog. I expect someone to have used Google or AI to inquire about a topic on which I’ve written to establish my position before making a request here. I will not reply to any such request if I think this has not happened.

I also reserve the right to delete any overly long comments. A 400-word limit for comments is to be added to this blog very soon, but this does not mean that I am inviting comments of that length. Brevity when making a comment is frequently of benefit. In addition, please ensure that your comment is focused, comprehensible, includes references to any matter to which you are referring, and is likely to be of interest to the community here, while also complying with all the requirements noted above.

If any of these conditions are not met, I reserve the right to delete the comment.

The following warning will also be added to many posts:

Comments

When commenting, please take note of this blog’s comment policy, which is available here. Contravening this policy will result in comments being deleted before or after initial publication at the editor’s sole discretion and without explanation being required or offered.

The Covid lockdowns didn’t cause any inflation then? Giving half of the country’s workforce a year off and printing money to pay them didn’t cause any inflationary pressure at all?

Posters have to have a unique first name? How the hell does he expect that to work? Once James Acton posts, James Brown, James Cameron, James Dallas, James Everton, James Franks, James Garfield, James Hillside, James, Ingio, etc. are all banned?

The MSM narrative is that the increase in inflation results from the employers’ NIC increase and the NMW increase. Probably at least partly true, but what about QE and its mishandling?

I’m curious how Brexit explains food inflation in Canada, on a recent trip back food prices in UK seemed much more reasonable and didn’t seem to have gone up as much as back in Canada.
I’ll guess posting that to his site would not be considered a good faith question

.So Brexit has had a world wide effect then. Here in New Zealand , I have done the food shopping in the same store for the past 10 years. I am now spending over twice the amount for roughly the same products and quantities. Can you please all go back into the EU before I run out of money.

Food price inflation in Europe – 26 countries have it worse than the United Kingdom

https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/food-inflation?continent=europe

Global food price inflation – too many countries to count have it worse, including NZ (Canada has it better).

Actually an interesting list. Some countries with price deflation you’d be happy to live in, quite a few where a cheaper loaf of bread would be scant compensation for other elements of life.

You really don’t want to include foos in anything, whether Core CPI or a blog post.

@ Theophrastus
QE was, IMHO, justified during Covid, but not during Wilson’s hyperinflation or Reeves’s paying Labour’s paymasters in RMT and the public sector unions.
I knew as soon as he announced it that the cost of furlough would have to come out of my savings from fifty-odd years of working and fifty years of spending less than my income but I STILL that Rishi was right to do it.
As Tim often points out we have to think “what is the alternative?” – is it civil servants/NHS employees not getting an above-inflation pay rise or is it children starving to death?
