A foundation set up in memory of Diogo Jota is facing questions after it emerged it had no connection to his family or Liverpool.
The Diogo Jota Foundation has been soliciting donations via a website, diogojotafoundation.org – created three days after the striker’s tragic death – which says it has raised $64,250 (£47,715).
Would have expected a scam like this to raise much, much, more than that.
Obviously slightly difficult. If you’re running a scam you don’t want too much publicity, as the scam will be revealed. But you’d like some so that you get cash….
Larger scams take place ever day.

€500k pre-tax is a very generous gesture but the bloke had been on approx £10m a year and the club will still be paying the last two years of his contractual salary so why would his family need the extra support?
I have to admit that I only had a vague idea of whom he was.
He’s not Eusebio, Figo or Ronaldo class, so not someone to make too much of a fuss about if a neutral.
Also earning upwards of £200,000 a week and blowing himself up in a Lambo suggests that perhaps his widow is not short of a bob or two.
I watch the football highlights at the weekend and I had taken rather a shine to Jota. Good player and seemed a cheerful sort.
I suppose footballers live with the knowledge that one injury could end their careers but, being young, they probably still believe they are immortal.
Who could have predicted that a Liverpool player’s death might have attracted scams……….
And as an LFC fan I really don’t get the huge fuss about it all. People die in car accidents every day. No-one makes a massive fuss about them and their grieving families, or raises funds for them. Why the big hoo-hah about a multi-millionaire who crashes his car worth more than many people’s houses, including most inhabitants of Liverpool?
Talking about scams, I’d like to know why my rendering of Tim’s site is peppered with links to “Bangladesh Property Companies”. Some side hustle he’s got going for him?

This is bollocks. The fund is completely legit but just happens to share all my bank account details; pure coincidence.
