This one surprises

Erm, who is doing the counting?

For you usually measure life expectancy through things like a census. And you need to have seen the entire generation pass through life before you can count the age at which the median death occured.

And how in buggery is anyone doing that in Gaza?

Now, you could be counting average age of death of those dying. Which isn’t life expectancy at all. Especially in a well conducted war where – at least you’d hope – the opposition is concentrating upon killing the young men carrying guns against them….

As I keep saying, it’s mad to believe a word said about this bloody war. Lying liars the lot of them – journalists, charities, both terrorist entities, other governments, ….

No one is counting, this is propaganda. Save the Children reckon 85,000 Yemeni children have starved to death in the civil war there so you’d think their line would be more dramatic than Gaza’s. But da evil joos weren’t involved there of course….

both terrorist entities

Speaking of lying liars….

This is the sort of thing you get when one side of the conflict is deeply embedded in the civilian infrastructure.
Sure, we had Fallujah ‘shock and awe’ etc in Iraq, various luxury compounds in Afghanistan. But not 20 yrs of building tunnels under hospitals, iirc.

Life expectancy from current age, averaged over the whole population? Does anyone believe that there is any pre-war data that is trustworthy, let alone current data? Life expectancy from birth can only be measured accurately 100 years later.
If the guy means “average age at death” then he shouldn’t say “life expectancy”.
I note that Wikipedia states that he has been accused of pseudoscience …

‘Erm, who is doing the counting?’

Fluent, articulate and poised Gaza journalists, who, BTW, are not terrorists.

Apparently, this is about an estimate of life expectancy at birth, today, in Gaza, if the war continues.

Before Oct 7th, the average Gazan being born could expect to live to 75, today, if the war continues a Gazan born today would on average live to be 40. This is heavily skewed by infant and child deaths, courtesy of figures supplied by Hamas who say 80% of those killed have been children and 65% women. Another 42% were innocent old men.

The ‘if the war continues’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

It looks like it’s the average lifespan of a Hamas leader after 7/10 of from being being appointed to the position.

The graph is also an accurate representation of the trajectory of any gays for Palestine activists foolish enough to visit Gaza.

Bibi made a good point recently, he said if they wanted to do a genocide, they’d have done so by now. Jews are smart and capable people.

I hate the modern definition of “genocide”, where the people you’ve allegedly made extinct are around to bitch and moan about it on social media forevermore. Genghis Khan would never have put up with this shit. Case in point:

According to multiple national governments,[17][18][19] international organisations,[20] independent experts and media outlets,[21][22][23] Russia and its ally Belarus are committing genocide against the Ukrainian people as part of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War,

We need to stop genocide inflation and get back to sound genocide. What Israel is doing doesn’t even rise to the level of brutality shown by the Einsatzgruppen.

On tother, Christian communities in the Middle East have been nearly wiped out by the peaceful religion and Western governments funding ISIS, but nobody cares about Christians, do they? Even the Pope doesn’t seem particularly bothered, too busy gargling migrant cock.

Steve,

“We need to stop genocide inflation and get back to sound genocide. What Israel is doing doesn’t even rise to the level of brutality shown by the Einsatzgruppen.”

Israel is very reasonable. “Hey, we’re going to blow up your building because there’s Hamas guys in there, get out”.

I’ve met a few “Israel is committing genocide” people and I say “are they, like what?” “well, they’re blowing up hospitals”. “Yeah, because Hamas put their rocket launchers in there. So, what would you do in that situation? The people next door are trying to kill you?” Well… um… I just don’t think it’s right, that children die” “Yeah, it’s a tragedy, but I asked you what you would do in that situation”.

Dopey middle class westerners just don’t want to face that.

And I don’t have a massive amount of sympathy for the Gazan people. They aren’t like the supporters of the IRA that were fine with military and political attacks but hated attacks on civilians, and led to drops in support. They’re pretty much OK with killing and raping Jews. At which point, well, why should I care?

There won’t be peace for a generation. Gazan kids don’t get education, they get indoctrination.
Any Palestinians who manage to migrate out of their self constructed hellhole will be totally unsuited to a modern society.
Maybe if Israel, Saudi, Jordan and Egypt got together to offer a curriculum about actual stuff then in about forty years the problem might be slightly less acute.

It must be the only genocide in all of history where those supposedly being genocided have it within their own control to bring it to an end.

Yep, they, Gazans, were out in the street singing and dancing in celebration as the murders, torture and rapes were being live streamed on the internet.

One of my abiding memories of that day is TV pictures of a Palestinian woman going round the streets of Berlin offering baclava to passers-by to celebrate what was happening in Israel, the smirk on her face was disgusting.

“It must be the only genocide in all of history where those supposedly being genocided have it within their own control to bring it to an end.”

Its also the only genocide in history where there are very possibly more of the target population after 2 years of genocide than at the beginning, given the Palestinians are managing to keep producing children at a fairly rapid rate.

@ AndrewC
I asked about *trustworthy* figures.
The latest Life Tables published by HMG show Life Expectancy at birth in England in 2021-3 was 81, that in Scotland 78. I just cannot believe that Gaza’s health is as near to Scotland’s as Scotland’s is to England’s.

This discussion is far too earnest; a bit of levity is in order.

My wife was in a supermarket recently and saw a woman point at a tub of Israeli humous, declaring loudly “I will not buy genocide houmous.”

Bet she drives an electric car.

BinD – It must be the only genocide in all of history where those supposedly being genocided have it within their own control to bring it to an end.

I do feel terrible for those hostages, this is a living nightmare for their families. I wouldn’t be able to sleep if it was one of my children. I think I would have died of worry.

WB – Dopey middle class westerners just don’t want to face that.

It’s like the story of the scorpion and the frog, except they’re importing bags of scorpions by the thousand, dumping them in our clean white kitchen, and then screaming “racist” at anybody who gets stung by the scorpions.

Something’s gotta give, something’s gotta give, something’s gotta give.

Can you feel it coming in the air tonight? Most thinking people seem to realise we can’t go on like this, the sense I get is that they’re mostly waiting for the other shoe to drop. By that I mean, we are closer to civil war in Europe, widespread breakdown of lawn order, than it’s polite or smart to admit, lest we be put on a list. True, I am severely mentally ill, and sometimes it’s difficult for me to grok where my own madness ends and the insanity of modern life begins, but I don’t think I’m nuts about this. Am I? I wish.

TPTB should stop worrying about Reform and start worrying about what happens if Reform fails. Help us, Nigel-Wan, you’re our only hope.

BinD us together Lord – One of my abiding memories of that day is TV pictures of a Palestinian woman going round the streets of Berlin offering baclava to passers-by to celebrate what was happening in Israel, the smirk on her face was disgusting.

Similarly, what they did on October 7th was so outrageously evil, so ridiculously monstrous, I can’t forget it.

I mentioned the Einsatzgruppen earlier on. Reading about them is a profoundly depressing experience. They manifested Hell on Earth, it was Satanic evil. The mind staggers and reels to learn that European Christian boys were capable of such things. The Jews are 100% right that we should never forget.

But in its own way, what those people did to helpless Israelis on October 7th was worse than the Nazis. And here’s why: they enjoyed it. They were laughing. If you’ve ever seen pictures of people being executed by German soldiers during the war, there’s no smiles in the photographs. The Krauts were not proud of themselves, and tried to hide their crimes. To not only be capable of such acts, but to delight in them – that’s when you know Hell is celebrating. Demons capering and cackling in a sea of blood.

Jesus wept.

I’m impressed that the graph does not include nations like Sudan, or Eritrea, or……
Might just be me, but there just might be a tad of that thing called “selection bias” in that graph.

But hey… it promotes the continued existence of Hamas, so it must be UltraPlusGood™, because….. Reasons™.

Meanwhile Gazan children, with their family members, will be brought to the UK for treatment by the already stretched to breaking point nhs. Are there no hospitals in the Arab nations?

For all the reasons mentioned above I have little sympathy for Gaza children. We could do with fewer of them. They’re already a lost cause by the time they’re two.

Oh, and “children”. The average age in Gaza on October 7th was 18. Half of the population is children, and possibly a quarter of them are active combatants. No wonder the death rate is so high. It’s what they were bred for.
