Well, yes and sorta

Rugby player banned for telling female referee to ‘get your baps out’
Official shocked by verbal tirade from ‘intoxicated’ individual while her parents who were in the crowd were ‘heartbroken and angry’

A player, yes, but not a player in that actual match but a spectator.

Yes, this makes a difference to the level of referee abuse this was. Other than that, good. The whole point of rugby is that it’s a game for thugs not played by thugs.

Well if ever there was a prime example of the feminisation of society, this is it. A female referee is subjected to puerile abuse, and the fact her parents overheard it is supposed to be an aggravating factor. As if she is a small child, not an adult. Would a male referee subject to abuse (and lets face it they get far more abuse that this) ever bring up whether his parents were present? Of course not, he’d be laughed at. Poor diddums, did Mummy and Daddy hear you called a blind c*nt? How terrible! Now piss off and grow some balls.

Banned for abusing the referee? Football would become extinct and I seem to recall from my rugby playing days spectators were never shy about deriding the physical aspects of the ref. Admitedly, I didn’t hear many requests for the ref to display any sexuallly attractive parts but then in my day that would be seen as an invitation to be the focus of unwanted attention…

He should have called the ref a stupid white bastard, and then everybody would be defending him.

So, this wasn’t a player, it was a spectator?

But the article says player?

Is this common? Is this deliberate misinformation?

If the author can’t get something this simple right, then…

@ Steve
“Spectator banned” wouldn’t be a headline

If she’s been around rugby long enough to decide she wants to be a referee and then qualify she and her parents will have heard a lot worse so my guess is we aren’t being told something.

“it’s a game for thugs not played by thugs” says a man who never played against Hawick High School.

Surely he didn’t TELL her to do it but actually ASKED her?
If he were a proper rugby player should he also have ended with Sir?
