No you didn’t and no it didn’t

Something called country-by-country reporting, which I created, changed the tax world forever.

“the long history of the emergence of CBCR, marked by battles between different interest groups, illustrates the challenges democracies around the world are currently facing in their attempts to hold multinational companies to account, which have grown extremely powerful. …The UN agreed that it was necessary to cast greater light on corporate structures and finances and commissioned a ‘Group of Eminent Persons’ in 1972 which ended up drafting far reaching proposals which would have required large companies to publish data similar to country by country reporting….

…Within this commission, a Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (GEISAR) has been convened to increase financial transparency of transnational corporations. It was consensus that public reporting requirements should shed more light into the multinational corporate networks and finances. Their first advances towards CBCR were made in 1977. GEISAR proposed a set of concrete recommendations which required the publishing of detailed financial reports for each company within a multinational corporation, ”

That’s by the Tax Justice Network? The organisation that Murphy co-founded and then had one of his huge failings out with?

I’m impressed that they now hate him enough to publish a long and detailed contradiction of his main claim to have succeeded in something.

Funnily enough that’s roughly what Murphy said when I referenced this publication. “They refused to acknowledge that I made any contribution” he huffed

From the references in that publication

“Murphy, Richard 2012: Country by Country Reporting. Accounting for Globalisation Locally., Downham Market, in: http://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Documents/CBC2012.pdf; 6.11.2012.”

Country-by-country reporting for all significant individual countries or groups of countries was required by the UK accounting standards board in the 1960s. I know that because I was analysing accounts from 1971 including some historical ones from the 1960s to measure growth rates – and one could often learn/deduce some interesting information from the country-by-country data in the notes to the accounts that wasn’t mentioned in the Chairman’s statement to shareholders.
There seems no limit to Murphy’s ignorance.

One thing I love about this place is how peope push the rhetorical features of the English language.

But, for today, move over! Steve has been out-Steved,and Worstall has been out-Worstalled.One of my favourite Israeli tweeters has taken the crown:

Top lady. The only thing I would add is that TTK has to personally house on his property and at his expense the Gazans headed here, plus pay for the security required.

I’d like to ask him if his creation of CBCR exposed any example of tax evasion that would not otherwise have been prosecuted, or something bad shut down that was previously legal. But moderation. But fair play if there were an example he could cite because of HIS creation and not what was happening already. Or even an instance of an improvement to societal productivity or to the total compensation in a society.
Tomorrow I might create IDMP – a grant application standard which reveals the true beneficiaries behind every application. Indicators include married partners, cousin partners, and even married to cousin partners, and how to spot them. IDMP = individuals disguised as multiple people.

Just for a moment, let’s try to imagine what’s going on inside Spuds deranged mind. Did he suggest CBCR, or was it something in his dreams that night, after hearing about it the date before? Do his model trains run on time, or are they subject to external influences?
Are there pubs in Ely where he’s welcome?

These are the great questions on our age. It seems wrong that such a major original thinker of our times received such a lack of appreciation and approbation in his locality.
