And lawyers should know better than anyone that there is nothing more powerful than the truth.
We have an adversary legal system. There is no investigatory magistrate impartially searching for the truth. There are two hugely biased advocates seeing who they can persuade by arguing their client’s case.
If you think being a barrister is about the truth then perhaps another career might suit better?
The onlt thing lawyers know is how to lie convincingly. Which explains the knighthood given to Kier and the Lordship given to Hermer.
Davey is a rare case of being knighted solely for being a nincompoop
Cops, too. In US, it is legal for cops to lie. Youtube has a gazillion videos of lawyers telling you how to not let cops trick you. What your rights are. Common tricks they use.
Being demonstrably correct is a huge advantage when litigating. Not one that can’t be overcome, but still a huge advantage.
‘Twas ever so… I remember at the end of my Law degree, many many years ago, being asked by my tutor whether I was going into chambers. I told him “No. I’m going to get an honest job, maybe playing the piano in a whorehouse”. 🙂
Huxley and others have always been adamant that if you *had* to get an Education it should be Law.
Not that it was any more useful to society than any other form of Advanced Basket Weaving, but at least it got you Academic Credentials and taught you how to protect yourself from Lawyers…
Did she actually say “the truth”? Whatever happened to the concept of “my truth”? The horror!
