Fun, innit?

They could do that because of an arcane Senate procedure called “reconciliation”, which allowed the big ugly to get through with just 51 votes rather than the normal 60 required to overcome a filibuster.

The majority wins in a democracy and this is an arcane procedure. But, you know, Robert Reich.

Anyway, the 60 and filibsuter. That’s about whether to have a vote at all. It actually makes no difference at all to the vote itself.

Two bodies not even cold and already the Gaza riots break out.

I think Israel made a tactical mistake. They should have checked the boats for illegal weapons, drugs etc and then waved them through. The doom goblin is a hostage we don’t want back.

It looks like there’s not even any humanitarian aid on board.

We have a new sectarianism on our streets. Before it was just confined to Ulster or Glasgow. But this one can crop up anywhere.

Fun here in Clogland…

There’s dutch nationals amongst the detainees, so we had the usual pro-Palestine “demonstration” to demand our government demands their release, etc…

Prime Minister Schoof: “Why he hell would we? They deliberately went into an official no-go area, and should well have known this could happen.”

Hero… 🙂

If I were the Dutch government, I’d be praying that the Izzies’d keep the drongoes forever!!!

Though I’m sure the Israelis have far too much sense to keep them a second longer than necessary.

Everywhere else suggests that the Dems have machine gunned themselves in the foot on this one.
Especially as this is the opportunity the govt needs to lay everyone off.

Oh well as you say But, you know, Robert Reich.

I suppose Mr Reich is obliged by his surname to prance about as a leftie. Imagine someone on the right called Reich!

Here’s a question. Do Americans mispronounce the “Reich” as “Riech” – they usually use the mispronunciation for such Germanic names – or do they get it right?

I once saw an American Jew complain of antisemitism because some one failed to pronounce his surname as Goldsteen. Hypersensitive or just trying it on? Who knows? It just added to my suspicion that Our Jews are made of better stuff than Their Jews.

Arcane when Republicans use it.

Clever when Democrats use it. As they have. As recently as 2021. Guardian journalists don’t know what happened yesterday. Every day is exciting, it’s like the first day of their life again!

I had read somewhere that sheep don’t remember. So things are surprising and it’s why they act so stupidly.
Sounds familiar.

I read once that sheep spend all day thinking up new ways to get themselves killed.

This is an amusing tale of the trials of a sheep farmer.

Reich thinks the shutdown has given Dems useful leverage?

Like Custer at Little Bighorn: “Now we’ve got em!”

Custer was an amateur, dear boy. The trick to Victorian cavalry warfare was to get other people not yourself killed, then flee back to England in the yacht you spent every night of your Crimea campaign in (leading to you oversleeping some important battles) and declare yourself the hero of the hour before anybody else can contradict you

Flashman is good on both of them, although a bit lenient to Custer.
