Oh. OK then. Fair enough

Western leaders attending the Sharm el-Sheikh summit have enabled and sponsored this slaughter. They are in no position to build a Palestinian future

Great even. So, we’ll do nothing and the Arabs can pick up the bill.

Have fun everyone.

I have never seen so much Left wing anger and frustration on Twitter as I have this morning over the peace deal, no not even when Trump was re-elected.

It’s early days yet but I wonder if there is going to be a major and extremely bloody civil/turf war to fill the vacuum?

More importantly I hope Israel will finally walk the walk and do some serious and lasting damage to the tunnels.

I seem to remember reading that its something to do with the salt water contaminating the soil making it useless for future agricultural use. And while you might think ‘Why would the Israelis worry about destroying the soil in Gaza?’ I suppose water doesn’t respect boundaries, so if you salinate the ground in Gaza that sea water may well spread to Israel on the other side of the fence, thus it could be self sabotage.

Golda Meir famously said (roughly) there will only be peace when Muslims love their children more than they hate Jews.

But what if the various militia groups hate each other even more?

(Apart from the flood of unvetted and unassimilated refugees into England – which has already started complete with large numbers of dependants and family members).

The Egyptians connected the tunnels on their side to the sewers when they kicked 50,000 Palestinians out recently – oddly largely unreported by the media.

The only reason ever moslems agree to a ‘ceasefire’ or ‘peace deal’ is so they can regroup and re-arm.
Eamon Holmes commented that the IRA (pretty much) walked away from violence, so was hopeful. The difference was the IRA could see a way to power from the Good Friday agreement, power which they have achieved. There is no hint hamas will be allowed to attain any power under this deal, so expect normal service to be resumed in the not to distant. I hope i’m wrong and hamas is consigned to the dustbin of history but I doubt it.

And John, the fighting has already begun, so perhaps round two will be Israel versus another group of moslem nutters………

It does occur to me that this is an elaborate Trump ploy to let Hamas hang themselves. Get the hostages back first, without getting Hamas to disarm (but crucially having had that written into the agreement), then when Hamas refuse to disarm at the subsequent negotiations threaten them with the Gotterdammerung of a renewed Israeli attack, this time 100% backed by the US, both practically and diplomatically, and to the death. With the added impact this is Trump we’re talking about, he doesn’t care for the usual diplomatic niceties, so will happily let Israel have a free hand if he thinks he’s being ‘disrespected’.

Eh? The IRA lost, badly. Turned into good little town councillors working for the British state. And now they’re supporting replacement immigration to kill Ireland stone dead, Nigerians and Muhammadans are turning the emerald isle brown. Come in, ye blacks and tans…

All the violence, all the jail sentences, all the torture, murder and terrorism was for absolutely nothing. They lose! Good day, sir!

As early as the late 70s, and there are many explantions for why this is, the Republic became indifferent to reunification. The Irish used to run guns to the IRA, supplying them, the idea being they were like the forward line, and at some point, Ireland would take the north by force.

The Anglo-Irish Agreement of 1985 wasn’t even a big deal, but just codified what was already going on. Ireland became indifferent to having the North. They fully agreed to self-determination. Once it was just you and a few blokes with semtex and rifles, you were never going to overwhelm a government.

They kept kicking around a bit after that, but they were basically fucked. The British successfully infiltrated the IRA and they smashed it to bits, and they took, as you say, town councillor status. Even that’s shaky because gradually as the North improves, becomes more industrial and so forth, they are voting less on hard sectarian lines.

I think there will be a united ireland at some point, because it’s practical and there is so little difference in culture and language between the two parts. There’s more and more cross-border co-operation because it’s sensible. It’s easier to organise things where someone can take a short drive than having to get on a plane. I don’t mind if it happens or not. Just an observation.

Maybe don’t go taking hostages and raping them.

I’d like to call it a “fuck around, find out”, but you only have to read about that pager operation, Entebbe and Munich to know that Israel are not to be fucked with. You come home to a pile of bricks? Well, maybe don’t go voting for Jew haters like Hamas next time, idiots.

As I said at the time, they had a well financed, trained and equipped force and they could have chosen to invade a small town, evict all the occupants, move in a load of families and thrown a defensive ring round it before Israel saw it coming.

Israel would have then had a real diplomatic and military problem because they would have had no support for going in all guns blazing to get it back.

That would have done more to help the Palestinian cause, but it’s never been about the Palestinian cause, it’s always been about anti semitism and utterly destroying Israel

Because it’s a proxy for Iran. Which isn’t even about Jews that much. It’s about the Arab League and that Israel are allies of the Arab League.

The thing about watching the news, is you always get a somewhat distorted picture of things because it talks at quite a surface level and aims at what people connect to. Rather like growing up, I saw lots and lots of WW2 movies involving Britons. Because that’s what people connect to. Even my school history was heavily about the Western Front. It’s only as I started to take a deeper interest that I realised just how huge the Eastern Front was.

So, the western news doesn’t bother with things like the Makkah incident in the Hajj, the attacks on the Saudi embassy in Iran. It might mention what is going on in Syria, with Assad getting booted out. But it doesn’t tell you that he was pals with Iran and the booting out happened because of Saudi Arabia supporting the other side. If Yemen is mentioned, it’s about arms sales, not that Saudi and Iran are funding the sides. Or anything kicking off in Lebanon, Nigeria, the mid-90s Afghanistan civil war.

Everything is painted as Jews vs Arabs, but the real war is Persians vs Arabs. It’s Iran and Saudi Arabia trying gain regional hegemony and it started after the Iranian Revolution, because Saudi were pals with the Shah and supported him. After the ayatollahs won, there was bitter hatred.. There is also some Jews vs Arabs, yes. but Hamas and Hezbollah are Arabs working for Persians (Iran).

Iran doesn’t particularly care about destroying Israel. What would be the point? It’s not great land, no oil. They’d have to have a huge war, with huge numbers of dead Iranians, and for what? It’s not a coincidence that a lot of what happened in the last few years started at the same time that Israel and Saudi Arabia were working out formal recognition of Israel under the Abraham Accords. So Iran paid Hezbollah and Hamas to kick off, leading to scenes of Jews killing Arabs, because they know that the leaders in Arab countries will get nervous about how the average man in the street in Riyadh thinks.

A lot of stuff that sounds crazy makes a lot more sense when you scratch the surface. Everyone assumes Gaza fanaticism. No, it’s getting paid a lot. Like suicide bombers get paid to do it. OK, not them, but their families. Which is why you have the whole thing of families being proud of their suicide bomber sons. It’s not a load of sky fairy shit. It’s that the family won’t be poor, and who isn’t proud of their son looking after them?

People have to understand how much Iran distorts Gaza’s incentives. Egypt and Israel broadly speaking get on. Why doesn’t Gaza? Well because Iran pays Hamas to kick shit. And most of the west just don’t get all of this.

We will, No 10 has said, pay “particular tribute” to the US president in Sharm el-Sheikh. And so now we have a crime without criminals, a genocide without génocidaires,

There were clear criminals – Hamas who attacked on October 7th and slaughtered hundreds. Your only apparent regret they didn’t kill everyone. Israeli reprisals have been absolutely justified.

A wretched population who, we are to believe, have been brought low by Hamas, and must be fed and watered while the world works out what to do with them. An entire history across Palestine of Israeli impunity and dominion, one of repetitive ethnic cleansing, military rule, expansion of settlements – and now explicit rejection of Palestinian self-determination – is erased, again.

If you lose a war you suffer the consequences, and the ridiculous notion of genocide is comical. If they wanted to commit genocide they would have been able to do so – in about 48 hours across the entire Gaza strip. The fact so many refugees are alive to come back gives the lie to the entire genocide myth.

But many all over the world who have witnessed the massacre, and all that went into sustaining it for two whole years, will not so easily forget. The secure future of those in Gaza, and Palestine in general, is not something that can be delivered by the thieves-turned-protectors. Without the empowerment of the Palestinian people and their self-determination, there can be no faith or trust in Israel or its allies to deliver that constantly invoked “lasting peace”. The killings have mercifully stopped for now in Gaza, but there must now be a refusal to normalise what will follow – a return to a status quo in which we all keep on pretending that Palestinian life is viable under the authority of Israel.

So Israel must accept a state full of genocidal lunatics inside its current border and risk October 7th attacks every day? I don’t think a single party in the Knesset would agree to that.
My one regret is Israeli tactis and indeed their military can’t be persuaded to start similar activities vis a vis other Hamas/ISIS sympathisers in the UK, as its going to become necessary sooner rather than later.

I suppose the usual morons will be demanding the West, and Israel, pay for the rebuilding of Gaza, while deliberately failing to mention the billions of dollars the Hamas leaders in Quatar are sitting on. Will the Palestinians be grateful when the alleged Soros/Xi sponsored UK prime minister shells out money we don’t have? Will they hell! Islam will look upon such generosity as a weakness to be exploited. If Starmer does want to help, he can send all the doctors and engineers picked up mid Chanel.

We’ve already done that and they put themselves in a position where it got destroyed. If the money spend on the, in the last 40+ years had been spent wisely they would have one of the highest standards of living in the area after Israel.

Let them rebuild it themselves and they might appreciate it enough to be peaceful neighbours.

The remaining living hostages coming home is great news. Two thousand prisoners going back the other way, not so much, but I just have to grit my teeth and accept this is the way it’s done. Not so wonderful for the dozens that didn’t make it either.

The Gazan civil war is about to break out, anyone think an Arab peacekeeping force will materialise? That’s supposed to be part of the plan isn’t it?

Pump CO2 (which is heavier than air, so sinks) into the tunnels now the hostages are out. Two reasons: it’ll suffocate all remaining dwellers and please the climate bigots as it’s a sort of ‘carbon capture’
