Hard to have broad, revenue-generating appeal when no-one really cares apart from a handful of trannies, furries, S&M freaks and sundry perverts. And public sector workers who get time off for it of course.
One wonders if the cancelling of USAID payments has anything to do with this. I’m sure a lot of that cash was finding its way to all sorts of unexpected places.
I think it more likely that corporations aren’t funding this shit to the same extent they were a few years ago.
Hold on, the performers are *paid*? Isn’t the whole point of a pride parade is to show yourself off? It’s a demo, you don’t get paid to go to a demo.

These are rather redundant events now.
The point of Pride marches was political, saying you weren’t going to be oppressed. And you got musical artists who basically did it charitably, supporting the cause.
But no-one cares today.
This was all quite successfully sent up with “the only gay in the village”, where poor Gareth was trying to be all anti-oppression but had missed it by 20 years and it turned out that a large percentage of Llanddewi Brefi were “drinking from the furry cup” or “taking it up the chuff”.

Manchester Pride has come under increasing criticism in recent years after moving its main stage away from Canal Street, the heart of the city’s Gay Village, and charging for entry.
Weekend passes now cost £84.50, which buys access to the live arena, headlined this year by Sigala and Zara Larsson. And entry to Pride-operated venues in the Gay Village this bank holiday weekend costs £17.50 a day.
If punters are paying those sums, I wonder where the money went.
Booked into a hotel in Liverpool recently without realising that the local pride march was kicking off out the front.
Apparently had been delayed from earlier in the year due to, ahem , ‘financial pressures’.
I reckon Jim is right and a lot of USAID funding was making its way over here (and everywhere else).
Birmingham Pride has been closed off for the last few years, with entry regulated by (expensive) wristbands. This is as much to to with nanny-statism as anything else.
It’s a requirement that they regulate the numbers and also provide security and the only way to do that is to have it enclosed.
