It is time to give up the pretence that there is a viable neoliberal market in the supply of domestic energy in the UK.
As the Telegraph reports this morning:
Ovo Energy is preparing to slash tens of millions of pounds in costs under a radical plan to secure its survival.
Company goes bust in a competitive market. This proves that competitive markets – one aim of which is to allow people who fuck up to go bust – don’t work.
With Ofgem in control of pricing, he’s correct, only not for the reason he thinks.
Proof? We ain’t got no proof. We don’t need no proof! I don’t have to show you any stinkin’ proof!
There is some good news on the horizon though:
‘I blogged rather more than expected yesterday, and we had long conversations on quantum economics reconciling points of difference on thermodynamics, entropy and gradients of change, and the relationship of these to behaviour in the macroeconomy, which took our thinking some way forward’
Reconciling points of difference = this is your last comment here you neoliberal fascist
I can’t wait! Who manages to discuss this stuff with him without pissing themselves laughing?
Is quantum economics going to be replaced by thermodynamic economics?
In which he discovers trade-offs, a consequence of the 3rd Law of Motion?
I await his outpourings with a due sense of dread. They’ll be on red alert in Vienna at Boltzmann’s grave for signs of extremely rapid rotation.
Not sure if you have read yet either the ‘Crisis’ post or the post on Nancy Maclean – the latter is useful in that it shows that Murphy is basically Alex Jones with a pair of binoculars.
His post on Climate change requires a strong stomach – one of the most nauseating I have yet read.
Dear Lord, I don’t even like reading the snippets of his malign lunacy which are posted here.
We are all dumber for having read it.
“Jacqueline and I were, during a coffee whilst on our weekend away, discussing people whose books have influenced me.”
No wonder the poor woman went mad.

“Two titles stood out as outstanding works, which I highly recommend: The Joy of Tax and the Courageous State.”
Alongside two other works: ‘Over Here and Undertaxed: Multinationals, Tax Avoidance and You.’ and ‘The Taxing Wealth Report’ – Great minds at work
For her birthday he’s got her a special treat – a week away where she can devote herself solely to staring in awe at him as he thinks
Contrast this with his commie vision of government owned power companies. They will never slash tens of millions of pounds in costs. No incentive to. Cost only goes up.
You’re reminding me of Oz’s wonderful jihad to reach net zero that was supposed to reduce all our power bills.
Oddly enough, they’ve all been zooming up, and they’d be even higher without the taxpayer subsidies.
They haven’t gone bust (yet) though, right? They are trying to become more efficient which is admittedly something that wouldn’t happen in the absense of competition
And would certainly never happen in a nationalised business.
How does a ‘neoliberal market’ differ from an actual market?

Wat’s really sad about that is how hollow your life must be to a) write that and b) think it amusing.

Does the train set cost too much to run these days? This sad excuse for an Accountant (failed) must be having a hard time making ends meet, which, in itself, is amusing.

I thought that last week – albeit his wife is on long term sick on full pay on the NHS so he does have that source of income but I am not sure how much any of the various ‘side projects’ like SCA get, let alone wheezes like Quantum economics and having two twenty something sons at home who you have told not to get proper jobs because the system is rigged is all well and good but it isn’t cheap. And as Steve and others point out while he does have YouTube subscribers, Mr. Beast he isn’t so am guessing there is some financial worries.
Good – evil has consequences and I hope he is made homeless.
