Fundraisers collecting for Palestinian civilians in Gaza are seeing a “catastrophic” drop-off in donations since the ceasefire was announced in October.
Donations collected by volunteers and funnelled to needy families living in temporary shelters and struggling with illness, hunger and malnutrition have been harder to raise since then, according to organisers, many of whom have been running volunteer initiatives for Palestinians in Gaza on third-party crowdfunding platforms over the past two years.
Megan Hall, based in Australia, runs 95 such mutual aid funds across social media accounts for individual families in Gaza, and has raised more than $200,000 (£152,700) since February 2024.
Hall said that although donations started slowing down in September, they declined significantly after the 10 October ceasefire came into effect.
Now that the usual aid is getting through – so we are told at least – then the requirement for cash will decline. No?
The aid was always getting through. Some of the Hamas lot are so fat they can barely fit down their tunnels.
Maybe it’s now becoming apparent to potential contributors that the ‘genocide’ was no such thing and they were conned! ?

Then again, I’d love to know how much of the money from large charity “Gaza appeal” is spent on Gaza, rather than just going into the general pot.

I am deeply suspicious about the value of giving to a lot of charities, having done bits of work for them and stories I’ve heard from people. Chief exec salaries aren’t the worst thing. Because chief exec salaries are one of those public things.
But, you can squirrel money into a pension, you can hire your kids, use the services of your husband’s company. All of which doesn’t appear in the annual report. Then there’s just the fact that a lot of charities are pointless or redundant. Oxfam doesn’t do a whole lot of “fam” nowadays because there isn’t very much fam. Bits of Sudan, maybe Somalia. So it’s a load of vaguely Guardianista stuff.
I will only support small local charities. Air ambulance, hospice, animal sanctuary, that sort of thing. You can see where the money is going. National charities are just bottomless pits of grasping hands all the way down. Very little reaches the actual ‘good cause’. Apart from which I’ve never been lectured by my local air ambulance about climate change, or Gaza, or the need for chicks with dicks in the ladies loos. In fact I rather like the fact my money is being spent on thousands of litres of kerosene to keep the helicopter in the air…..
That’s my position except at Christmas when we give to the Salvation Army’s homeless appeal. As far as I can tell they are keeping out of progressive politics and getting on with what they say they will do.
I fear Megan Hall hasn’t received any dosh from me.

Gaza should be resorts. It’s coastal, about 5 miles wide, 30 miles long. In France that’s like the bit of the Charente Maritime full of hotels, caravan parks, restaurants, funfairs. How stupid do you have to be to spend your time kicking the shit out of Israel rather than running minigolf and ice cream parlours?
I might have been sympathetic if they hadn’t been out in the streets dancing while the roses, torture and slaughter at that music festival was in progress.
