David Walliams has been dropped by his publisher following an investigation by The Telegraph into inappropriate behaviour towards young women.
I grasp the idea of attraction to publishing totty. Publishing is where the posh totty goes and it’s entirely possible to have a taste for posh totty. Fine.
But a rich man, a famous man (the second probably of more importance) with a known ability to be witty at least at times. He’s up to his kneecaps in poon anyway. Why chase those who work – even if indirectly – for you?
Seriously, attend a publishers’ party, drink half a glass of warm white wine and take one’s pick of the bodyslam of clunge voluntarily on offer. Groupies are not just for rock bands after all.
Why?
(No, I am not rich or famous enough for this to be true of me. But sufficiently fringe to such events to know this)

Some folks just like the taste of forbidden fruit. I think that’s all the explanation needed.
The thrill of the chase. Not everyone wants a canned hunt, where’s the challenge in that?
I’ve always sensed there was something ‘off’ about Walliams. Could be wrong, obviously never met the man, but the vibe he gives off on his TV appearances is not good, to me at least.
He once dragged me out of the audience onto the stage at the Hammersmith Apollo and the creepiness radiated from him like the Ready Brek kids in the old advert. The fact that he was humiliating me in front of a large audience may have coloured my opinion.
He’s always been a bit weird but he’s a comedian. Him and Matt Lucas did extremely well for guys with medium talent, though catchphrase-driven, laugh track comedies of the type the BBC used to love are playing on easy mode.
Walliams started out playing silly characters on Sky TV’s show about computer games, starring Jet from Gladiator in a tight rubber dominatrix outfit. I think Mary Whitehouse had a stroke watching this
There’s weird, and there’s creepy. Lots of comedians seem a bit odd, its probably what makes them funny. Walliams is creepy, and not funny, at least I don’t find him funny. Now it could be a comedic persona he’s just putting on, but watching him on chat and panel shows it doesn’t seem like the other performers are playing along, like they do with people who have obvious comedy personas, like Joe Wilkinson. They seem to find him as off putting at I do.
The person he brings to mind to me is Jonathan King, which is hardly a good association.
Ouch. I know what you mean tho.
From Wiki – Walliams hinted at being pansexual in the book Inside Little Britain, but said he did not like to be labelled by that word.
No doubt. “Pansexual” seems to mean “extremely degenerate predator”. That Lost Prophets guy was “pansexual” too.
I had several strokes watching this, to tell the truth.
It’s a dirty job but someone’s gotta do it
It’s a sport, isn’t it? There’s no excitement chasing a dead fox, is there?
I struggle to undestand what comprises “inappropriate behaviour towards young women” in the 21st century..
Did he invite loads of his mates round to gang rape them and then indulge in a bit of torture? Because it seems that’s fine as long as you pray to a certain kind of god and face Mecca. And of course we celebrate diversity which is our strength so perhaps he doesn’t need to fulfill all those criteria…
What comprises that?
Last time I checked… Being a heterosexual caucasian male over 30, and breathing.
.
I thought he batted for the other team. Does that now come under “inappropriate behavior to women” now?
After my two television appearances I’m sure I received somewhat more attention from the ladies than before, albeit starting from a low base.
They can’t wait to get their hands on your teapot
That’s a nice tnetennba.
Well, what kind of little boys grow up wanting to be professional comedians?
Usually it’s a combination of insecurity, a desire to please people (Mummy), and a love of attention, no? Stand up comics are, famously, often troubled men who are not necessarily nice to be around in real life or funny when they’re not “on”. (Though I hear Rowan Atkinson is lovely)
Spike Milligan: genius, jokemaster, and severely mentally ill person it must have been hell to be or live with. It’s also imo why comedians are often brilliant playing more serious roles. Instinctive feel for timing, emotional beats and often these people are no strangers to tragedy.
The Romans and the Buddha understood that you’re not supposed to put entertainers on a pedestal. So why do we expect them to be models of morality?
The Romans didn’t have any problems nailing up one comedian. (mythically)
Rowan A is a lot more comic actor than stand up.
Comedy is the hardest thing. There are so many great straight performances by comedians. Like Uncut Gems, One Hour Photo, Jack Lemmon in Glengarry, Jonah Hill in Wolf of Wall Street.
One nice thing I read about Rowan Atkinson is that apparently he refused to let the Mr. Bean telly programmes be shown in Italy, because he wanted so still have one country where he could go on holiday without being recognised.
Worked until the movies came out I think, but the movie studio refused to cut out an entire national market.
I call BULLSHIT on Telegraph.
Narp, you got this wrong.
There’s a lot more dirt out there than the British press is currently legally allowed to publish. Allegedly, the Guardian was going to publish a major expose last week, got lawyered at the last minute.
Other papers have been teasing the big Walli recently with strange non-stories in the red tops. This is the traditional Brit tabloid press bat signal to put the wind up the troubled celeb and wink at the public that summat’s up but they can’t tell you what yet
So the Torygraph has indeed been digging too. The HC stuff is just the tip of the berg. A publisher doesn’t drop a cash cow like Walli (60 million books sold) over merely getting a bit too fresh with adult women. This is damage control from HC, because the wrong un is about to become a major liability for anyone associated with him.
I always liked Matt Lucas better anyway. Ouvavo!
Telegraph takes credit for getting him fired. I still don’t believe it.
Can anyone with a UA connection confirm if Zelenskyy was ever funny. No-one’s laughing now.
maybe he wasnt a good enough performer or generous enough on departure.
The comings and goings of society parties…
Did he show them his wallie?
