The green transition, on which I have campaigned for a long time, will not be delivered by good intentions, ethical markets, or better pricing signals alone. It will only be delivered when political movements are willing to challenge the power of finance and markets directly,

Everyone must stop reaching their own mutualy aceptable arrangements and instead do what the Sage of Ely insists.

Bad, bad, markets where people make their own arrangements, see?

He’s reaching that point in the Fawlty Towers sketch when Cleese loses it and goose-steps through the dining room, isn’t he?

Yes, nudge isn’t working so we must shove instead.

Political movements *challenge* the power of finance daily. Murphy is writing in a language whose apparent resemblance to English is deceptive.

The British soldier-on mentality. I was stuck in Heathrow for a couple of days during a strike. Bloody miserable, but the British would-be air passengers weren’t whining, they made non-stop jokes about it. It was a competition to see who could be the wittiest.

To mix and bastardise metaphors, the Overton Window is shifting on the whole climate hysteria debate and we can now see who’s left howling at the moon.

It will only be delivered when political movements are willing to challenge the power of finance and markets directly,

Translation: “It will only be delivered when power is in the hands of greasy little fascists like me.”

Actually, not even “like me”. There is nothing he would hate more than to see all the policies he dreams of delivered by another.

He’s a communist, not a fascist.

He is but people forget in the early days there was a significant overlap. Hayek identified them both as types of Collectivists, and enemies of freedom and there’s noone more contemptuous of it (at least for everyone other than himself) than this exemplar of everything evil in the world.

Agreed. I see Murphy’s fascist-like actions as incremental steps toward communism.

Looking at this boot sole on my face it’s difficult to see if it’s got a swastika or a hammer & sickle on it.

The only real difference is what name is on the company deed. In both systems the state maintains total authority over everything, fascism just pretends the ‘owner’ own anything.

Not a trivial difference.

He’s a totalitarian statist, doesn’t matter what flavour. It’s a thing that happens to grumpy old men of a certain type. An enlarged pro-state gland.

Yes on totalitarian statist. But there is enough difference between fascism and communism to kill 60,000,000 people.

Nah, the 60M weren’t killed on the basis of communism vs fascism, it was on the basis of which psychopath got to sit in the big chair.

He can’t be bothered running for office or working in public service. But he’s campaigning. For a long time. For people to do things his way.

“…the Overton Window is shifting on the whole climate hysteria debate…”

It’s about bloody time, it has been obvious that all the climate doom stuff is bollocks for decades now. If the masses had been paying attention the whole thing would have died a death years ago. I suppose it would have helped if the news media had actually done their jobs.

I get the feeling a lot of people just went along with it because it was the socially acceptable view.

Which means when it falls, it’s going to fall fast, because there’s only a small minority who are actually committed to it.

Exactly. It is pluralistic ignorance. People hear it on BBC, and figure everyone else believes it, so they keep quiet.

Not too fast. Apparently Mad Ed is still the darling of the Labour Party. Andy Burnham did have a bit of a love-in but his star now seems to be fading. If Mad Ed cracks the big job then his lunatic ideas will still rule policy.
