You have a strong work ethic. You publish often. You’re no prettier than I am, but neither is Murphy, so that shouldn’t be a disadvantage. Anyway, with a bit of training and experience you can create a show that’s not just a talking head, but contains graphics and footage. Donald might be a bit ambitious, but you could get guests like Nige, Mark Perry, Steven Hayward and who knows, perhaps Vance?
I’m just inclined to think the world would be a far better place without economists. On UTube or not. We all seem to be able to produce a great of value without being economists. And economists? Know any rich ones? Most of them seem to be skint or sucking on the public teat.. Doesn’t say much much for expertise in economics, does it.?
Horses for courses. There’s a place for non-written stuff. I think comedy is very effective, like Doug Stanhope explaining economics through prostitutes and Underpants Gnomes in South Park. You find something amusing and slip some economics in. The Ealing comedy, the Man in the White Suit is a great movie and also about the forces that oppose innovation.
You might plant an idea in people’s brains, but you also then need people who do the more detailed stuff behind it.
His posts normally get five hundred plus likes, and who knows how many views.
Murphy has an irresistible message. It’s all their fault. You’re going to have to work hard to beat that.
Piggyback on popular scribes. You could also dig into your pocket and get a media manager that knows about YouTube, Instagram and Substack. In my days as a turnaround and startup consultant I saw many ventures that faltered and failed from trying to do it on the cheap. Derek Muller has a production team and his videos get a couple of million views a time.
For the appearance part – Tim could become a VTuber;)

The message that the state can just spend and everyone will have everything they could possibly want appeals to many. Particularly those not astute enough to ask “When we have the money in our pocket to buy all these goods and services, where will they actually come from? What’s in it for the people supplying them if they too have the money in their pocket to allow them to buy anything?
Instead of asking that question the audience is tricked into feeling anger for the rich believing them to have taken everything.
How much of a view is regarded as a view? People send me all sorts of UTube shit via Whatsapp. It’s that peculiar thing, because they find it interesting everybody else must too. So I get football & all sorts of other tedious rubbish. But sometimes it’s not obvious rubbish from the link. So maybe I watch the first few seconds. Some inarticulate cvnt mouthing off about something in the news that’s bothering him… No tits. No interesting fatal accidents Delete. Yeah, I can imagine his low intellect followers deluge all sorts of victims with his nonsense. But how many of them watch more than a very small part of it? That idiot could be marketed as a sleep inducing product. Who the hell’s going to watch him preening his way through all that crap. Who’s interested?
It’s a feature of the interweb, isn’t it. It’s free because you are the product. How many would pay to watch it? It’s why the Graun hasn’t gone behind a paywall isn’t it? Because the sort of people read the Graun wouldn’t spend their own money on it. So it relies on its tax fiddles & its begging bowl.
There’s a minimum time you have to watch before it counts as a “view”. I assume he’s too tight, errr….. principled, to pay for views so it could be a real figure. Don’t underestimate the number of envious and spiteful people out there. And it’s left wing nonsense, which gets promoted by woke platforms. I had to block them.
How many rants has he made this year? One a day maybe? That’s less than 100K per video then. Not nothing but not amazing. It’s a typical small gaming channel type of figure really. He shouldn’t be ordering the Hugo Boss uniforms yet.
Having a quick look at his channel he’s made over 1k videos and has 314k subscribers. His most popular videos are anti Trump and he’s had over 1m views for a couple of them and regularly gets between 100k and 200k.
There’s obviously a market for telling people what they want to hear.
By comparison a niche German learning channel that specialises in explaining word usage in every day situations (in German) that I use has 214k subscribers and regularly gets over 200 views.
I don’t know what the most popular channels get but I’m guessing he’s nowhere near their numbers.
Oh, and the woman who runs the German channel is a lot easier on the eye.

Murphy’s appeal is obvious.
He attracts people who are disaffected with their life who want to be told that it’s all someone else’s fault.
He tells them that it’s all someone else’s fault (Neoliberal fascists) and that there’s a secret economic button that he could press that only he knows about which would mean that they could have everything they want and it would all be paid for by “that rich bloke over there”.
He doesn’t also sell snake oil from his website but he might as well.
