It’s a diagnosis, certainly

They are, instead, delivering three things:

Empty rhetoric
Mindless tropes
Contentless proposals which glaringly obviously make no sense, as the details of delivery have never been worked out.

Therefore listen to The Sage of Ely to solve these problems?

It might make me unpopular, but let me use a perfect example. Gary Stevenson provides it. He is a man remarkably like Wes Streeting. He can deliver lines. He has his slogans – “tax wealth, not work’ – but when it comes down to it, he has admitted he had no idea how taxes on wealth would really work. At least he had the sense to appeal for help. I offered it. I have done the hard work. It’s called the Taxing Wealth Report. I heard nothing. Why? Because the detail does not fit the slogans, and those slogans matter more. So, how delivery might happen is ignored. And as a consequence, his campaign will likely fail, which I deeply regret, because we do need to tax wealth more.

Listen to MEEEEEE!

He’s not liked that Gary’s minders don’t rate ‘im, ‘as ‘ee?

From the man himself:
But the truth is that these days, right-wing politics has abandoned all of that. They have almost nobody inside their parties who understands the real world of work, or finance, or capital, or business, or anything else,
Because they’re all the product of professors at universities? Although he could say the same thing about the left…

Unusually enough, everything Spud says about Stevenson is correct. The man is an epic bullshitter.

“… I have done the hard work …”

Yep. Five minutes of unceasing toil copying and pasting ill-informed rants from one document to another.

“…  I heard nothing. Why?”

Because it’s bullshit.

Re – “Taxing wealth”… If Chancellors with real, heavyweight (albeit perhaps misguided) intellects such as Dennis Healey couldn’t dream-up a method of taxing wealth without it costing more to collect than it raised, I somehow doubt that Spud has managed so to do.

Wes Streeting told Sophy Ridge this morning that he had “Had it with the BMA” (British Medical Association) and that “An outbreak of juvenile delinquency” is taking place, when referring to their strike.
Sophy Ridge then referred to how bad things were in the NHS, and suggested that people might die as a result of the chaos that was occurring, which is precisely why resident doctors are striking, because right now they know many of them are being made redundant precisely because the NHS will not give them jobs so that safe care might be provided, let alone at fair pay.

Is his wife’s position at risk I wonder as that could lead him to need to relocate, especially if his ‘roadshow’ doesn’t pay off?

Streeting was given little option but to agree on the issue of likely deaths: a report on corridor care had already made the point

Nothing about the Birmingham per year coming in all of whom get thrust to the front of the queue for free care?? Quelle surprise.
.
So, what is happening here? The BMA is making these points:

  • The government is neglecting the NHS, and people are dying as a result.

The NHS is the seventh largest employer in the world. Quite how this is ‘neglect’ is a mystery

  • 2.There are doctors available to work in the NHS to alleviate this issue right now, but the government will not provide the funding to employ them. In fact, some are being made redundant at this moment when patients are desperate for the services they could supply.

Of course there’s no financial constraint in this man’s fantasy universe. As the Telegraph post linked to by Clarence (Boddicker) proves, Murphy’s economics have been brutally exposed by the interview with Polanski as adolescent scribblings and verging on the deranged.

  • As a matter of fact, doctors can get better terms of employment outside England and are doing so because they can no longer afford to live here or endure the impossible conditions of employment being offered to them. We face a permanent loss of skills unless this issue is resolved soon.

And how would this be resolved precisely – more money at a time when there is none to spare? Remove care from violent patients? Charges for missed appointments? of course – MOAR TAX will resolve the issue.

I could add:

  • This week, the government has agreed to pay big pharma several billion pounds more a year for drugs, all to fuel the profits of big drug companies. There was no indication of where the funds would come from in budgeting terms. We can assume it will come from reduced care. NHS carers are paying for these drugs, as are we when we need care.

I dispute the figure and it was part of trade talks with the United States which are a prelude to the current administration releasing money to assist us

  • The government is doing precisely nothing of consequence to curb the abuse of the big food industry that is creating the crisis of ill health that is overwhelming the NHS.

Whereas Big DEI and Big Trans are doing a great job..

  • The money to fund the NHS could be available. It just has to be spent into existence. And if there is an inflation risk as a result, I have shown how to address that, too. I set it out in my alternative budget. I keep showing how. The government is simply too frightened to act.

Partly because it came in 11 posts and had the 100,000 commentators with greater economic knowledge whom you have barred from ‘Funding the Future been allowed to post it would have been eviscerated in a matter of 200 posts. It was nonsense on stilts from Paragraph one to paragraph 300. Badly written and utterly ignorant of economic basics.

  • And the last point is key.
  • Streeting is like a rabbit in the headlights.
  • So is the whole of the government, not one of whom prepared themselves in any way for the likelihood of office or the decisions that might be asked of them, even though they had 14 years to do so in Opposition.

I actually agree with this but adolescent fantasies (particularly from a near septuagenarian) aren’t a program for government.

And as Tim points out:

I have done the hard work. It’s called the Taxing Wealth Report. I heard nothing. Why? Because the detail does not fit the slogans, and those slogans matter more. So, how delivery might happen is ignored. And as a consequence, his campaign will likely fail, which I deeply regret, because we do need to tax wealth more.

As the legendary Andrew C points out – the Taxing Wealth Report was a random collection of stale tropes that were debunked when he raised them, often a decade ago. The notion it would raise even one tenth of the claimed revenue on a one-off basis was comical. It’s adverse effects would have been the equivalent of a nuclear attack. In a world where secure facilities existed then I would have recommended its author’s detention indefinitely.

I might not think much of Gary stevenson but he was wise to steer well clear.

…especially if his ‘roadshow’ doesn’t pay off?

I predict the first one – with possibly a second – will pay off, and then they’ll flop…because there are only so many Spud fanboys who are prepared to fork out £50 + travel expenses to hear what they can get online. The attraction, I suspect, is not so much Spud as his claque wanting to bond with each other…

If I’m wrong – and it has been known – then some opposition should be shown…

It’s the travel expenses will kill it. How much will it cost to get to Cambridge from civilisation?

He does get less mad when it comes to grifting. The price is probably about right. Cambridge is easy from London. He’ll get some takers. I don’t think he’ll make a living from it though.

It’s strange how well the budget was received by the markets given the big tax rises are scheduled to come in 4-5 years. The so-called mansion tax is one of the key items, due in 29-30, I believe. The likelihood that these “mansions” will have been identified and valued by then is zero. Which means the tax is highly unlikely to come into effect. So they are back to trying to increase the already high level of fiscal drag. Once the bond markets start to think about these issues, it could get interesting

Commie dick Murphy’s audience is low intellect voters. Hence, his nonsense is effective.

Seattle and New York have elected socialist mayors. Katie Wilson and Zohran Madmani sound just like Spud, and it got them elected (!).

But dick Murphy is a communist. He believes in state ownership and control. Taxing wealth is an incremental step towards his real goal: elimination of wealth. “Kill the rich and take their stuff” is still not a winning slogan. So he goes with “taxing” wealth (til it’s gone!). The notion that it is to raise revenue to help _____ is just bullshit. He doesn’t care about anybody but himself.

Indeed, the Grand Wizard of Economics has said that government can print money to pay for whatever it wants to do. So why the persistent “tax the rich” mantra? It’s not about raising money; it’s about destroying wealth, and the freedom it brings, and the RESISTANCE TO COMMUNISM.

OT, but GF has posted this, below. If evidence were needed to justify a civil service purge, then this is it…

“To mark the end of Black History Month, join Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and Cabinet Office Permanent Secretary and Civil Service Chief Operating Officer, Catherine Little, for this panel discussion on black career journeys in government.

They’ll be joined by:

Justin Placide, DESNZ (Co-Chair of The Civil Service Race Forum)

Matthew Otubu, Cabinet Office (Founder, Black Politicos)

Saher Jones, DWP (Co-Chair, DWP National Race Network)

This session will explore the career journeys of the panelists, the career progression cycle in the Civil Service, and ways that leaders in the Civil Service can support greater workplace equality and inclusion.”

That depends on your definition of “Black” – Tamils are darker brown than most Africans.
Secondly, Homer’s works were composed in poetry so that they could be sung by poets who had memorised them and the book of Job is reported to be (I am not qualified to be able to say whether it is) older than the Hebrew alphabet
