All of those people to produce a 69 page report. Wouldn’t poverty be reduced rather better by having the occasional competent person writing and the rest of the money spent on reducing actual poverty?
Do keep up. Organisations like Oxfam are not about charity for the deprived but employment for useless cunts.
Oxfam are at the Retard stage of organisation development. You start with a few blokes in a pub who think of a great idea, you grow to be a huge useful thing, then become bloated, someone else does the job better, or just the problem goes away, you become retarded and then die.
The problem is that there really isn’t that much “fam” left in the world. Mostly South Sudan. And in the past 30-40 years we’ve increased government involvement. It’s why you look into a report from Oxfam and it’s about Guardian-reading bullshit like eco and wimmin.
Like Kathleen Kennedy is “really proud” of the last Indiana Jones movie. Retarded. If I’m generous about that film, it’s 4/10. It cost a huge amount to make compared to some really good movies and lost money. But the owners, Disney, are run by retards, too.
“r just the problem goes away“
If that happens, you’re doing ‘charity’ wrong -you expand the scope, a la Stonewall when they achieved gay marriage, and are now going to bat for bloke who wear frocks to be able to pee in the ladies…
As leprosy has become less prevalent, at least in Africa, the charity Lepra has broadened its remit to include tuberculosis and lymphatic filariasis – after briefly trying but failing to climb on board the AIDS bandwagon. OK, not as bad as Stonewall’s mission creep, but it is a similar dynamic.
Also at the Retard stage. Job’s done, go home. But they don’t want to, so they take a retarded shot, anything, something desperate in the hope it can keep going.
From the point of view of people who want a job, not actually that retarded. Might as well give it a shot, maybe it’ll keep it going for a while longer. But Stonewall is over now.
And the Sudanese famine isn’t going to be fixed by well-meaning Brits throwing charitable donations at the local government.
“Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket”
(attributed to Eric Hoffer)
Though, to be fair, Black Lives Matter dispensed with the business phase.
and the movement phase
.
Careful Theo, a white British bloke has just been released 10 months into a two year sentence. His crime?:
He wasn’t found guilty of but was criticised for, having a book by Oswald Moseley, who founded the British Union of Fascists, a poster of Adolf Hitler and a Nazi emblem.
What’s wrong with BLM? Their website says:-
“We fund organizations and individuals leading policy and abolitionist efforts and partner with organizations and individuals who offer direct services to support the needs of Black communities.”
They funded individuals leading policy efforts 😉
Can anyone point out who the poor are in that list?
“Resisting the rule of the rich,” written by . . . the rich.
A little less Oxfam productivity would be welcome, please.
Let me play Devil’s Advocate for a while. Is it possible that each department (or whatever they call them) head contributed a brief summary of what that department does and the lead authors assembled and expanded them into the final report. I.e. most of those contributors spent half an hour or so each.
Cancel Devil’s Advocate mode: Of course, it’s also possible that there are too many department heads, but that’s a different subject.
Once, in Bolivia, I was negotiating with a market trader for a small item my wife wanted, when I was accosted by a young British woman who told me that it was immoral to negotiate with a “poor trader” and that I should pay the asking price. I asked her why I should do that when these traders would never sell anything at a loss. “That’s not the point – I work for Oxfam and…”. I turned away, finished the negotiation, and paid 20% of the asking price.
Anyone know if it’s illegal in Bolivia to punch annoying women on the nose? Would have shortened the encounter.
I imagine countries where the likes of Oxfam have a say in how the place is governed the locals have the same low opinion of them as we do.
Punching her or even verbally abusing her would have given her the moral high ground. The pleasure on the trader’s face at our achieving a mutually satisfactory price was clear for all to see. So I left, saying to her, “he’s happy, even if you aren’t!” Cue: self-righteous indignation, but I wasn’t listening.
Class.
I hope you also farted in her general direction.
I think the theory Tim’s advanced there is incorrect because he’s got it the wrong way around.
The reason all the names are on the report it to justify why they’re all getting paid.
The purpose of Oxfam is to employ all those people.
In scientific reports, veracity is inversely proportional to the number of authors.
Without reading a word, I know this report is BS.
So we can dismiss CERN’s discovery of the Higgs?
Wasn’t the Higgs discovery spread over so many years that they credited the half dozen reserch students that had worked on it each year, ending up with 120 credits.
Yars… Proving the Higgs particle existed was an exercise in Patience, and lots of actual Legwork, going over results with increasing accuracy.
They knew they’d most likely found it well before Publishing it, and most of the comb-sifting was to prove that what they’d found could not be anything else.
Which took a bit. And involved a lot of people trying to match *anything else* to the results, and coming up blank.
(which is basically what the majority of research students do… eliminating potential other explanations. Which means that *most* of their research amounts to “Welp. It most certainly isn’t [this]”.. )
What distinguishes the Higgs research, and the loooong list of contributors, from the Oxfam “Report”, is that you can confidently state that none of those names have been busy finding alternative explanations for the Inevitable Conclusions.
That’s Not Done in the Humanities….
The money they forcibly take from you is reducing the poverty of the people who work at Oxfam.
The director needs a second narrow-boat.
A 2 month supply of false names for use on the FTF blog if ever one was needed.
right to left, why; funny foreign word-processing; used AI to order names ?
Didn’t Oxfam do an trip to an earthquake disaster area and dish out aid only to families who contributed their teenaged daughters to the “Young flesh barbecue party”?
I refuse to even set foot in their “charity” shops.
