In the meantime, there is something small everyone in the world can do – and that is to give the battered and besieged people of Iran our attention. After the massacres, the protests seem to have reduced in intensity – the natural consequence of fear. But as they have receded, so has media coverage and political discussion, even as thousands of corpses from a colossal slaughter are barely cold. Many of those who usually pride themselves on their solidarity with the oppressed of the Middle East have been uncharacteristically restrained this time and oddly quick to move on, perhaps reluctant to be too hostile to an Iranian regime that defines itself as the foe of the US and Israel. Maybe they think that any enemy of Trump’s is automatically a friend of theirs. Maybe they fear it weakens their support for the Palestinians to oppose a regime that wants to see Israel destroyed.

Like Owen Jones’ little piece earlier in the week which blamed the whole thing on the CIA for overthrowing Mossadegh. Vile little shit that he is.

It took the BBC long enough to realise that there was an uprising going on there.

Iran is the enemy. It is not just the foe of USA or UK or Israel but is the very enemy of civilisation itself.

This is the quandary that so many apologists for Islam have to overcome. These are the bad guys.

Trump realised that his options with this hellhole are either a massive and ill advised invasion or turning the place to glass. So he has done nothing for now.

The problem is they took the saying: my enemy’s enemy is my friend, literally instead of as my temporary ally. Churchill and Roosevelt were quite clear that Stalin wasn’t our friend but he was a useful temporary ally.

This means they are incapable of reviewing an evolving situation and seeing which is the worst of two evils. So instead of being able to reevaluate and conclude the regime in Iran, fanatical Islam in general, is a worse evil than the USA they dig an even deeper hole.

There was also some BBC Persian service woman implying that keeping the Ayatollahs was better than the king returning.

Presumably she wasn’t volunteering to go and live there so her opinion should ignored.

Who counted them?

I wonder if it is something like Saddam’s chemical weapons scientists? Report large numbers or get arrested and replaced.

I imagine that the surviving nuclear scientists in Iran were secretly relieved that they no longer had to come up with a working nuclear weapon.

“there is something small everyone in the world can do – and that is to give the battered and besieged people of Iran our attention.”

Why should I? Can’t they find some rope, guns, blades and hang their leaders themselves like the French did to the Bourbons, the Italians did to Mussolini, the Russians did with the Tsars?

Everyone, as per usual, is looking at this with liberal eyes. That the Iranians want to throw The One Ring into the fires of Mordor, have democracy and gay pride parades. When it’s probably more “The Ring is Mine” and a different bunch of cunts take over.

Have to disagree with you there, WB.

Liberals think in terms of Harry Potter, not Lord of the Rings!

I’ve long thought JK Rowling bears a large responsibility for the modern young’s inability to think beyond “goodies/baddies, and I’m a goodie”. They show little inclination to grow out of it.

Bit harsh, the same wet simplistic nonsense is repeated in a zillion books, films and TV shows.

Please don’t blame JK for the stupidity of half-wits.

No doubt, but when it is Islamic nutjobs vs any other bunch of cunts, the second option is always better. And I include Syria in this.

When I was at Uni, the Iranian students were always ready for a demo with their ‘Down with the Shah’ posters and chants. When the Ayatollahs took over, their response was ‘Oh, Fuck!’.

When I was an undergraduate there were small but very polite “reinstate the Shah” protests.

Problem is, it often ends up being a choice between Islamic nutjobs and another bunch of Islamic nutjobs.

Trump is standing by with bombs.

Guardian has sternly worded article.

Protestors are sure that if enough sternly worded articles are written, they’ll be saved.

Clap harder for Tinkerbell.
