On the 29th February 2024, she proposed – presumably because I wasn’t getting on with it. That’s if you regard: ‘I expect to be your wife, not your mistress’ as a proposal. At least, I think it was.

That’s nice. I expect Mrs LR Mk 1 would be very happy for you, all things considered.
At the age where bereavement has befallen too many friends.
Glad Longrider’s found some comfort, moving forward from loss.
I am still adjusting to the directness. Sometimes she says something that makes me wince a little. Nothing is meant by it, it’s just the cultural differences. Also, our language has more room for subtlety. Mrs L Elect doesn’t do subtlety.
As an aside, the directness does make her a very effective beta reader for my novels.
Things not to say: “Wife? I wanted a proofreader!”
Actually, it works. I made changes to the historical note in Railroad because she was confused about who was fighting who. It simply hadn’t occurred to me that a reader might not know. She is also very direct regarding cover design. I’ve dropped my cover designer and am now doing my own with more historically accurate results as a consequence of ‘that’s terrible’ in relation to the cover of Rescue. ‘I paid nearly £200 for that,’ didn’t cut any ice. ‘It’s still horrible.’ Thing is, she was right. I was too invested to see it.
Many congratulations to Longrider!
Eastern European directness can be a joy or, occasionally, extremely disconcerting.
Thanks, and yes.
